La Vieille Auberge sur Saint-Jean-De-Luz

€26 set menu. Fish soup barely lukewarm, no croutons or rouille... The dish was good, but it was missing trout and duck breast. The portions were very small! The white wine was at room temperature, so it wasn't great.

Special mention goes to Astou, who is incredibly kind and helpful. The owner's disrespectful treatment of her employee in front of customers somewhat detracted from the delicious food we enjoyed that day.

The food was excellent, very well executed, and delicious. The wine list could benefit from a wider selection within France, particularly from the Southwest, with Corbières and Malbecs being a welcome addition. However, the real highlight isn't the food; the key lies in the service. Here, you must demand and appreciate the kindness and exceptional professionalism of Astou, who is remarkably kind, patient, and always smiling. She is discreet, efficient, and meticulous in her work. Unfortunately, the owner doesn't seem to appreciate the quality of her work. She is truly unpleasant and spoke to Astou in the worst possible way in front of us—frankly rude, and it somewhat dampens our enthusiasm for returning. It's unacceptable to speak to an employee of her caliber like that. There's a dark side to this restaurant; it's sad.

An excellent meal! Sardines, paella and rice pudding for... 22 euros! And a small digestif on the side for 9 euros.

It's two restaurants in one: one side offers a gourmet menu, and the other is a brasserie. Both offer a set menu with several local dishes, or you can order à la carte. The prices are affordable.

Impeccable food and a warm welcome!

Very good, we had the set menu with local charcuterie, veal axoa and sheep's cheese for dessert, we were very well received and the service was quick, a good place that I recommend!

The dishes on the menu were good, the chocolate cake less so. The egg wasn't runny. The portions were a bit small. The dining room was cold. The servers were very pleasant and the decor was nice. No aperitif or coffee was offered.

Overall, the restaurant was quite good. The portions were reasonable, but not huge for a €25.90 menu. Negative point: Unfortunately, we ordered white wine with our meal, but it only arrived at the end, despite our requests as soon as the main course arrived. It's a real shame, as it completely ruined the experience. 😅 The service was rather slow, and the waiter was unfriendly, asking us to clear our own plates. So, a mixed experience.
