La Vieille Auberge sur Saint-Jean-De-Luz

We had lunch at the old bistro inn. A friendly team who kept their spirits up despite the crowds of this long May weekend. Very well located. Simple but good food.

A must-try restaurant! Far from being a tourist trap, everything here feels authentic and designed with the customers in mind. The welcome is truly warm, and you immediately feel at ease, thanks to an attentive yet unobtrusive team. The dishes are delicious, beautifully presented, and all at a very reasonable price. The value for money is definitely there. A wonderful surprise; we'll be back without hesitation!

Lunch for two without a reservation on April 29, 2026. We opted for the set menu, which, if I remember correctly, was around €25. For starters, we ordered the piquillo peppers, which were good, but the portion was very small, similar to olives. For our main course, we had duck confit. My partner said it was very good, and the portion was acceptable. I ordered oxtail, which was also very good, but only two pieces, which obviously meant a lot of bone. The desserts were very good, and we ordered sangria to drink. It was nothing like the Spanish version; it wasn't bad, but we ordered two pitchers because the one they brought was like a tall glass, a very small amount. The service was excellent—very attentive, friendly, and efficient, the best thing about the restaurant. As always, this is a personal opinion, and in this case, it's meant to guide Spanish visitors. I'm speaking from my limited knowledge of French cuisine; I don't know if these portions are typical there, but for our culture, they are clearly insufficient. The total price was around €85; we didn't receive a receipt.

Overall, it was pretty good, but I'd say the value for money is still poor. My daughter ordered hake à la carte; it was €25, which was expensive for what was on the plate. The dessert portion was really small, as was the starter, so it's a bit of a shame. Portions are getting smaller while prices stay the same or even go up. I know it's expensive in this area, but in my opinion, some restaurants offer better value for money.

Hello, I came to this restaurant for a romantic weekend getaway, and I loved the food and the service. I work in the restaurant industry on the oyster-farming port, and we had the bistro menu; everything was very good, as was the welcome. I highly recommend this restaurant.

A lovely spot where you can have lunch or dinner on the terrace in the pedestrian street. It's great because three restaurants are run by the same team: La Vieille Auberge, La Bodega, and La Pizza de la Vieille Auberge. So you can enjoy pizza, tapas, or paella all at the same table. The owner is friendly, as are the servers, and the prices are reasonable. We had paella and squid risotto. It was very good.
