03/10/2026: Restaurant recommended by the Hôtel de la Poste in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. We were a group of five and ate fish. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The cuisine is refined and flavorful. The servers that day, Rudy and Julie (who was working extra shifts), were excellent and made up for the wait and the manager's curt manner.

29/09/2026: Great fish dishes. But often not everything is available. Sometimes there are disappointments… Service is good. Nice, quiet outdoor area.

23/08/2026: Arriving at almost 9:30 pm, we were expecting to be turned away, but it was quite the opposite! We were seated very well and received a warm welcome! The dishes were presented with gourmet flair and were excellent!! A delight from the aperitif, served with delicious little amuse-bouches, to the equally delicious and refined main courses! A place we highly recommend! The young chef is simply perfect!! The service was also perfect!

22/08/2026: We had an excellent time at L'Essentiel; the lobster pariada, the Pavlova, the service—everything was perfect. The terrace was very pleasant. We felt comfortable and had some distance from the other diners.

26/09/2026: Very friendly owner! Food was generous and tasted good! The kitchen is open all day which is great as most places close during the afternoon.

24/09/2026: A little treasure in St Jean de Luz. Vegetarian friendly. Delicious food and I enjoyed the Eguzki blonde beer. The owner was a delightful man, so accomodating and cheerful. Highly recommend.

30/07/2026: This restaurant had been recommended to us, but we unfortunately left disappointed. At €50 for a four-course menu, the price seemed reasonable. However, given the establishment's positioning, we expected much more attentive service. From the very first course, there was no presentation whatsoever. This was rectified later by a staff member. The presentation of the second course was rushed, the fourth was adequate, and no explanation was given for the dessert. Several details also gave an impression of a lack of care: the bread plates were still full of crumbs and were used as a base for the dessert coulis, the aperitif glasses hadn't been cleared even though the wine had already been poured, and the wait between courses was far too long. It wasn't all bad, though. The wine recommendation was excellent, as was the homemade sangria. Regarding the dishes, the zucchini accompanying the fish was undercooked, but that remains a subjective opinion. Overall, the plates were quite well presented. Finally, we were told the bill would arrive. After waiting about five minutes without any news, we had to go to the counter to pay. I imagine the employee sensed our annoyance, since she didn't ask us how our evening had gone. We won't be going back. That said, given the numerous positive reviews, I think this is probably an isolated incident and that this type of problem is occasional. Nevertheless, I feel it's important to bring these points to light so they can be taken into account and corrected for future customers. The goal isn't to criticize the establishment, but to share an experience that I hope will contribute to improving the quality of service.

26/07/2026: We had booked a table at this restaurant located in a beautiful house in the historic heart of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. We opted for an indoor table in a lovely dining room, which must be particularly pleasant in winter. The dishes we chose were excellent and original, from the amuse-bouche (which we didn't know about beforehand) to the dessert. The wines by the glass were very good. In addition, we would add that the service was professional and also lively, which we appreciated. We highly recommend this restaurant.

23/09/2026: The food and service were impeccable. The only downside was that the lights in the back room and the terrace were turned off at 10:15 pm while we were still seated. We felt a bit like we were intruding. No big deal, though; we'll definitely be back.

21/09/2026: We had a wonderful meal. The tuna and smoked trout were delicious. The tapas were excellent. The hake was very good, and the squid in ink was a real treat... The gourmet coffee and Basque cake were the perfect ending to this delightful meal... The owner is fantastic, and the servers are pleasant and efficient. A big thank you, we'll be back. I highly recommend it.

02/10/2026: A wonderful Basque experience. The server was delightfully friendly, welcoming, and sharp-witted. He also spoke impeccable English—a massive relief for our dining experience, if a slight setback for my ambitious plans to practice my French. It’s a relatively small restaurant with few tables that filled quickly, we had made reservations.

18/05/2026: The hotel is very well located. The spa in the basement is lovely, with a pool and jacuzzi. Unfortunately, the television and refrigerator were broken and not repaired during our three-day stay.

13/05/2026: First and foremost, I want to thank Julien, whose personality makes this place so unique. I remember the place as being in PERFECT condition and spotlessly clean. I also appreciated the thoughtful touches that made all the difference: fresh orange and lemonade. The spa was magnificent, and the masseuse was lovely and very attentive to the client's needs, personalizing each massage accordingly. I also appreciated the charming Spanish housekeeper who took such good care of the guests. And I remember the very generous and high-quality breakfast. Thank you to the entire team. It was a very special weekend for us, and you all contributed to making it perfect.

11/09/2026: Lunch during the holidays. Very good atmosphere, it's a restaurant frequented by regulars. Short menu, generous portions, fresh cuisine. My fish dish was a tad too salty.

26/09/2026: Very, very good pizza in Saint-Jean, BUT I can't give it 5 stars because, imagine our surprise when we arrived at the beach and realized the pizzas hadn't been cut... 😓 In 2026, I think it should be automatic when we order takeout pizzas! 😉😉 Thank you to La Casita (on the promenade along the main beach) for saving our evening and our meal by lending us a knife. But we still thoroughly enjoyed it! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
