L'Alambic sur Jarnac

We had lunch sat outside in the sun. We can speak a bit of French and the staff a bit of English, so we managed to muddle through. Really good food and great atmosphere. We and our dog were made very welcome.

Returning to this restaurant for a lunch with friends, satisfaction is always there. The fu jour menu had 2 starter and main course options. Those who had taken the menu enjoyed themselves, while emphasizing the generosity of the portions. For me it was an a la carte ocean salad, a classic with them but since my last visit, oysters have been added to the dish, in addition to prawns, shrimp, smoked salmon, salad, tomatoes, toast , butter and thin slices of pomelo and lemon! Beautiful, hearty and good! I am happy to have introduced this restaurant to my friends, I will go back there when I am back in Charente and I recommend it.

We arrived at this restaurant by chance. People on the terrace gave us a good impression which was confirmed. Very friendly welcome, attentive service. We had the daily menu for 19 euros and a few cents. Starter, main course, dessert for less than 20 euros... astonishing. We tasted the hake terrine and Charente crickets as a starter: excellent and really well served. Then we had lamb cooked for 7 hours: once again really excellent and very, very well served. And strawberry panacotta for dessert: a delight. There is also a well-stocked menu. If one day you go to Jarnac, don't hesitate, go there. Be careful though, it is best to book.

Our favorite restaurant in Cognac region so far. We were lucky to get a table for 4 on the first day of our journey and then we took care to book in advance for our lunch later during the week. The family-run-business, they speak little English and their hand writing on the blackboard is not recognized by Google translate. But it doesn’t matter, because all the dishes are delicious and whatever you order your taste receptors will be pleased. Also, the kids loved the Steak Hache and the fries, which are not just ordinary fries but very tasty and authentic.

In a "bistro" atmosphere and with relaxed and smiling service, here you eat very well or rather you TASTE! Cuisine the way we like it! Inventive or traditional, it is executed with taste, brilliance and above all balance!!!!!!! Today for less than 20 euros the formula offered a goat cheese panna cotta, a starter with a welcome lightness and freshness with the outside heat! The cheese was neither too strong nor too faded! It was there and recognizable but could be accepted by the few people who don't like "goats"! This is where we recognize good Chefs! They are able to make you like something you don't like and LOVE something you do! As for the consistency of this panna cotta, it was PERFECT! Neither too soft nor too “stuck”. In two words, a WONDER! The dish was a light revisitation of osso-bucco. Fabulously good! Well-cooked meat that was falling apart but held together and didn't fall apart in this tomato-based sauce PERFECT! Its orange color revealed that it had simmered for a long time and had not been made in a hurry on the edge of the Piano!!!!!! A generous plate for the Ogres! The plain spaghetti was served separately and everyone took the quantity they needed! For dessert, a mousse not with strawberry 🍓 as often but WITH STRAWBERRIES 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓! Full of tiny pieces of fresh strawberries and STUNNING lightness! And a coffee to finish! I drove an hour to meet my friends who had found this MAGICAL place! Contrary to what one might think, I lack words to say more! Above all, as they used to say: Don't forget the service! SMILING. We forget it too often but we shouldn't when we are satisfied! Nothing can be discussed here! Everything is EXTRAORDINARY!
