Went for Sunday Lunch with my wife while on holiday in Concarneau and throughly enjoyed the experience. Food was excellent and we had a great waiter who looked after us . Would throughly recommend

What can one say about this “Bannalec institution” in an honest attempt to be fair:
Mistake number 1:
You follow the recommendation of a very successful “tourist guide” - yes, I know, it's actually a literary travel guide - to an already very overcrowded tourist city.
Mistake number 2:
You don't speak the local language well enough (but at least you try and don't immediately start chatting in German or English). When placing an order, the boss sees no possibility of helping out in any world language - except French. When it came to paying, English was no problem.
Mistake number 3:
You come at lunchtime and don't have a reservation.
Unavoidable:
a perfectly (honestly!) styled boss who had a lot to do with herself and being a boss and - despite mass operations - under no circumstances wanted to get into the depths of normal service.
Conclusion:
If you value the crime novels and the travel guide and absolutely have to “check off” a visit, you can do so safely, ideally without making the avoidable mistakes mentioned above.
The food was good, but it didn't blow you away either. And: there are significantly better alternatives, especially when you evaluate the price/performance ratio.

What a pleasure to have lunch in this illustrious restaurant thanks to Commissioner Dupin. The food is good there. The tuna cooks perfectly. On the other hand, the service leaves much to be desired: long, disorganized and unprofessional. Have we ever seen tables cleaned while the customer is waiting for us to take care of him in the middle of service? This ruins everything and I hope that the commissioner is more considered during his visits.

We ate there with 4 people at the beginning of September.
The food was great and the wine pairing was also very selected. The cheese plate could have been more. A small salad bouquet with 4 slices of cheese... More would have been possible.
Unfortunately it wasn't possible to order a taxi for us at the end. With the suggestion that it would be a nice evening and going on foot would be healthy, you can't really do anything with it in a foreign country.
It's a shame, if you leave almost €400 in a restaurant, that would be just as much a part of good service as perfect service at the table.

We spontaneously asked for a table today and it worked out without any problems. We chose the lobster menu and it was excellent, the service was very courteous and quick, we can only recommend it!

Regardless of the fact that, like us, some customers were there because of the books or know them.
From our point of view, the service tried very hard right from the start to offer every table the same level, regardless of the menu size. The fish dishes we ordered were very excellent. And the starter and dessert were also wonderful.
But here too, compared to another wonderful restaurant in Brittany and the asking price of the cheese plate, it looks rather small. Nevertheless, these were well selected and were not served cold.
We were probably very lucky to be able to reserve a table for the same evening. However, it is advisable to do this as early as possible.

What can I say.... what a pleasure after 8 hours of driving to have a service worthy of the note I leave, a super good dish.
Not having grown up near the coast, I almost took a steak tartare for a cod.
I must say that thanks to cooking, I reconnected with this fish whose frozen taste had repelled me all my life!
And a small mention for the shortbread served with coffee... my mouth is still speechless!

Natürlich ist das L' Amiral für alle Dupin Fans ein "Muss", aber auch alle sonstigen Gäste werden mE nicht enttäuscht. Wir waren mit 2 Familien (4 Erwachsene, 4 Kinder zwischen 13 und 15) zum Mittagessen hier. Angesichts der unterschiedlichen Vorlieben haben wir fast die Karte "quer" bestellt und können sagen, dass alles wirklich sehr gut war, insbesondere bei den Vorspeisen das köstliche Frikassee von Crevetten mit pochierter Auster. Das "Dupin" Entrecote ist ebenfalls sehr gut (ob es das Beste der Bretagne ist, lassen wir mal dahinstehen), das plateau de fruits de mer ist frisch und so solide, wie man es von guten Restaurants in der Bretagne erwartet.
Das Ambiente ist jetzt modern maritim (hier hat es wohl vor nicht allzu langer Zeit eine Renovierung gegeben) und der Service ist freundlich und solide, die Weinkarte ist übersichtlich, für das Speiseangebot aber passend und ausreichend.
Ob seiner Lage direkt am Hafen und direkt vor der ville close ist das L'Amiral natürlich nicht billig, im Vergleich zu anderen Restaurants dieser Kategorie aber auch nicht überteuert und aus unserer Sicht erfolgt auch kein erheblicher "Promi Aufschlag" auf die Preise wegen der Bekanntheit aus den Krimis (die wahrscheinlich ohnehin nur die deutschen Touristen gelesen haben). Daher ist das L'Amiral auch für Nicht - Dupin - Fans in jedem Fall empfehlenswert.

Das beste Entrecote in der Bretagne (Kommissar Dupin, Jean-Luc Bannalec). Lage am Hafen fast optimal. Personal freundlich. Atmosphäre so lala.
Man bezahlt die Berühmtheit durch die Bretagne-Krimis mit.
Die Buchung per Internet wurde gleich am nächsten Morgen telefonisch bestätigt.
