L'Ardoise des Cloutiers sur La Rochelle

The staff were very friendly and the lunch menu offered excellent value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and even got a table without a reservation.

A wonderful discovery: L’Ardoise des Cloutiers! This restaurant offers refined, generous, and flavorful cuisine, with remarkable value for money. We started with two different appetizers: the perfectly cooked egg with feta and eggplant caviar, beautifully executed, with an original and balanced combination of flavors. The other was the Saint-Marcellin cheese, crispy on the outside and meltingly soft on the inside: a particularly indulgent starter. For our main course, we chose the chicken ballotine with mashed potatoes and a rich jus. A very successful dish, with tender chicken, smooth mashed potatoes, and a well-reduced jus that added great depth to the dish. To accompany our meal, we ordered a carafe of Chinon wine, which was of excellent quality and paired perfectly with the dishes. And to finish, French toast with salted caramel: indulgent, comforting, and perfectly balanced with that touch of salt that enhances the caramel. A little tip: reservations are highly recommended! The restaurant was full when we visited, so the service was a bit slow. But honestly, it was well worth the wait. The staff is very friendly, and the wait is quickly forgotten once the food arrives. And above all, it's hard not to mention the price: €25.50 for a starter, main course, and dessert. At this level of quality, it's excellent value for money. A great place to eat in La Rochelle, with refined cuisine, generous portions, and prices that remain very reasonable. We'll gladly return!

A very enjoyable dinner with a friend at this small restaurant tucked away in a quiet alley in the historic center of La Rochelle. The setting is understated yet elegant, the food delicious and the portions generous. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely a great place that I would recommend without hesitation!
