Dining at Auberge du Vieux Puits was overall a very good experience. The cuisine is excellent, and the wine pricing is surprisingly fair for this level. However, the wine service did not meet the expected standard. I ordered a 1999 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échézeaux (€2400), and my glass was refilled while it was still half full, which interrupted the natural evolution of the wine in the glass. More importantly, this was not an isolated moment. The same refill approach was repeatedly applied to other guests at the table, even when it was clear that they were slowing down or had stopped drinking. This not only affected the tasting experience but also led to unnecessary over-pouring. For wines of this level, service should adapt to the guest’s pacing and respect the integrity of each glass, rather than applying a routine refill approach. A noticeable gap in an otherwise excellent experience.

We stayed as a family at the inn on April 23, 2026. It was a truly wonderful experience where the art of living and hospitality are paramount. Sleeping in an idyllic and comfortable setting, surrounded by nature and kindness. The culinary arts take you on a journey of refinement and delight with every dish. All of this in an atmosphere of joy and sharing. Thank you, Mr. Goujon, and to your entire team. We only have one desire upon leaving: to return very soon.

We experienced the "Best Family Menu" as a family with our teenagers, and we also chose the wine pairings (with and without alcohol). The price was definitely on the higher end of the usual range, but the feeling after entering our credit card details at the end was still pleasant, and that's when you understand the effort that went into it. Leaving a review is still complicated! Excellence, Kindness, Exceptional products, Decor, A feeling of well-being once seated. A few words that ring a little hollow because they are so inadequate for the quality provided by the team from start to finish. It's truly above and beyond the best. I recommend that all food lovers try the experience. We will be back every year. Thank you.

There is haute cuisine, and beyond that, there is the cuisine of Gilles Goujon and his team. Going to the Auberge du Vieux Puits, Gilles Goujon's restaurant, is to leave deeply moved, without really knowing what happened, without being able to put words to some of our emotions. After many kilometers through the countryside, we didn't know what to expect. And then, we arrived at the Auberge, to the wonderful surprise of a warm welcome, both simple and precious. Discovering our room was a delight: pure refinement, chic and relaxed. The terrace, opening directly onto the pool, allowed us to spend an intimate moment. We felt like we were alone in the world. We will never be able to describe the intensity of the emotions we felt during the meal. Everything unfolded so subtly that we didn't quite grasp what we were experiencing. Each dish had its own story, each seemingly insignificant exchange with the staff subtly influenced the rest of the meal without us immediately realizing it. This dinner was, above all, a journey outside of time, a silent spectacle where each member of staff played their part, all orchestrated with finesse, kindness, and conviviality. The lighting, the aromas, the flavors, the service as a whole were perfect. The beauty and meticulousness of the dishes reminded us of fine jewelry. We needed a good night's sleep to fully grasp what we had experienced and to relive the film of this blissful moment. We left after an excellent breakfast, our stomachs filled with delightful flavors, our heads brimming with memories, our hearts touched, and with a burning desire to return. The Auberge du Vieux Puits, the heart of Fontjoncouse, is an experience to be had at least once in a lifetime. You can't imagine what it's like until you've experienced it yourself. We obviously thank the chef for his creations, but also his entire team, who reflect his character with exceptional emotional intelligence and professionalism. Thank you all 🙏

We had lunch today, and wow! What an experience! Everything was perfectly executed. We were treated to stories from Mathieu about some of the dishes, a thought for Chef Roger Vergé, and congratulations to the entire kitchen and dining room team. Thank you again for this wonderful experience.

Overall, a mixed experience, with very good intentions but also several aspects that, at this level of expectation, deserve further attention. We particularly enjoyed the beginning and end of the meal. The amuse-bouches were very successful, refined and precise, and the oyster-based starter was a truly gastronomic moment, both elegant and balanced. The dessert also concluded the meal perfectly. However, the main courses left us more reserved. The main disappointment concerned the temperature of the plates: they arrived lukewarm, which created an unpleasant contrast with the otherwise perfectly cooked meat. The sauce, lukewarm or even cold, also detracted from the enjoyment and harmony of the dish. At this level of prestige, precise temperature control is essential and contributes significantly to the overall experience. The meat, despite being impeccably cooked, did not seem to us to live up to the standards of a three-Michelin-starred menu in terms of creativity and innovation. We expected more surprise, depth, and personality. The signature egg dish also seemed underwhelming. The egg had a rather pasty texture and a relatively bland taste. The very creamy truffle sauce lacked lightness and reinforced this impression of heaviness. It's an iconic dish that, in our opinion, deserves to be revitalized and revisited to achieve more contrast, freshness, and impact. Finally, we appreciated the eco-friendly approach of no longer offering plastic bottles, which is consistent with current concerns. However, it seems difficult to understand why they continue to charge several euros for a bottle of tap water that is filtered and carbonated on-site. The intention is commendable, but the pricing seems out of step with the reality of the product offered. It is worth highlighting one very positive point: the chef's presence throughout the evening. His availability, attentiveness, and willingness to gather customer feedback and criticism demonstrate genuine commitment. In summary, an experience marked by some excellent ideas and promising beginnings to the meal, but which still lacked creative flair. We felt we were encountering very conventional cuisine, whereas other great chefs have managed to reinvent regional cuisine with greater audacity, while respecting the products, resources, and their identity. Chefs like Bras have shown that it is possible to evolve a culinary heritage without distorting it, by bringing a vision, modernity, and genuine emotion to it. It is this ability to surprise and offer a personal interpretation of regional cuisine that we would have liked to see more of here.
