L'authentique avignon sur Avignon

At the end of September 2024, I spent a few days in Avignon and I chose the Mercure Avignon Center Palais des Papes. Essentially for its central location, next to the famous Palais des Papes, and also for its Privilege room with terrace. For the rest, I expected Mercure standards: friendly welcome, modern and functional room, simple but complete breakfast, concrete architecture style "60s-70s and often a good bar/restaurant (not this time because it is not there is no bar/restaurant in the hotel but we invite you to go to the Mercure Center Pont d'Avignon - just a stone's throw away - to have a welcome drink there; I was so well received there that I am there; returned for dinner and the meal at Racine was very good - thank you to the Racine team for these good times). But, the pinnacle was my Privilege room with this beautiful large terrace overlooking the Place du Palais and the Palais des Papes. Unbelievable, rarely seen, the most beautiful terrace in the very center of Avignon! Incredible, moving, edifying - I had the feeling of being able to touch the Palace -, impressive, inspiring, ... In short, an exceptional feeling of feeling like you were in the Vatican, on St. Peter's Square and on your own terrace! Unforgettable memory! And thank you again to the entire Mercure team for their kindness and helpfulness.

After a very warm welcome on arrival, certainly a somewhat cramped room but the building is old... A desk was missing but at least a chair. We are to the right of the Papal Palace so a 3 minute walk from the congress is what I was looking for. We are right in the center with restaurants to go out. Public parking with a 20% discount

Great room with a view of the city square. Delightfully frigid AC! The mattress, however, was rock hard. The front desk staff was polite and knowledgeable, always ready to help in English or French.

It's a shame that cleanliness is not the hotel's key word in the bathroom. A wipe on the doors doesn't eat bread. The bedding is impeccable. The personalized greeting is very nice.

Nice hotel with a decent breakfast and an absolutely perfect location. Note that the best restaurants are away from the main square.

Ideal location but not for people with reduced mobility. Hotel located in a pedestrian zone, underground parking under the Place du Palais des Papes and you have to cross the square with your luggage! Otherwise decent room and excellent breakfast!

We had dinner for three evenings in this hotel restaurant, while the overnight stay was in the other one adjacent to the papal palace I requested a vegetarian menu and I was really satisfied with the dishes offered, every evening starter, main course and dessert Compliments for the originality and flavours, very kind and helpful service, very welcoming location on the veranda. Small hotel, very central. There is underground parking 1 minute away and the main attractions are all right next door. There are also a lot of restaurants around, so location-wise, it’s very good. The price is also very reasonable, especially since it is a very touristy place. However, our room was very small (a bit like everywhere in Avignon) but especially smelled very bad, from the pipes… we had to buy a lavender spray to combat this and afterward it got better, but it was not pleasant . The bedroom carpet was also old and the bed noisy. The shower room was spacious enough given the overall size of the room, but the overhead shower was broken… Breakfast was normal, nothing special but nothing was missing. We stayed for just 2 nights and I think the hotel is sufficient for shorter stays, but if you want to stay in Avignon for longer I would advise you to perhaps look elsewhere.
