Excellent food, friendly and discreet servers, a calm atmosphere within the beautiful grounds of Caen Castle.
The wait was a little long.

Absolutely fine, except for one small point: the steak knives could use a sharpening to properly enjoy a rare steak.
Also, a quick sweep of crumbs would be appreciated on these black tables before enjoying dessert.

Not quite as good as the first time we went, the portions were small.
Also, they mention accepting ANCV Connect vouchers, but they don't! That's not right.

Our second visit this month!
The food is still excellent!
The staff were pleasant and attentive on Friday, July 10th, but less welcoming on Tuesday the 15th.
Despite our reservation this morning, the table for four wasn't full, and the service was less pleasant and slower.

Certainly one of the best places in Caen for inventive gastronomy at reasonable prices. You can also choose a traditional, local dish, such as the "grippes à la mode de Caen" (the best "grippes"!). We tried it one Friday at lunchtime, and we were both won over:
Me: Tripe, almond biscuit, rhubarb, elderflower sorbet. A glass of white wine: Coteaux Vendômois – Pierre à Feu. A coffee.
Her: White bean tartare, chopped flatbread, pine nuts, mint sorbet, pea velouté,
"Beetroot ravioli," red cabbage, yuzu soup, red berry nage, hibiscus sorbet. A blonde beer.

One of our friends can't stand garlic and onions, so the chef kindly offered and prepared a separate sauce for his fish dish. We really appreciated his gesture!

This was our second visit. The snow pea soup with mint sorbet is simply divine. The mint is perfectly seasoned without overpowering the dish. The guinea fowl is tender and succulent. Truly excellent cuisine. And, most importantly, despite the limited menu, they offer a vegetarian option. This really sets Le Mancel apart in Normandy. I highly recommend it to all my friends who travel to Normandy.
