Le Chataignier sur Lamastre

Perfect place after the steam train ride, the meal is excellent, the choice of dishes is varied and plentiful.

The chestnut salad was sold with pieces of Tomme cheese that were nowhere to be found; I inquired and it was mixed with a sauce that resulted in a bland dish. The salad leaves were blemished and lacked freshness. Personally, I would avoid this place. The waitresses were pleasant and smiling, but that didn't translate to the food.

Excellent welcome, great atmosphere, very friendly, Ardèche specialties and more classic dishes, and a very pleasant setting on the beautiful square of Lamastre! We'll be back!

Excellent value for money on the Ardèche menu. The caillette (a type of sausage) is incredible: finely chopped, perfectly grilled around the edges, and not greasy. I don't usually like it much, but you have to admit that when it's done right, it's so much better. I'm only giving it four stars because I felt a bit uncomfortable with the young owner's reaction to the dissatisfaction of customers who had been waiting for 45 minutes. And the seating was poor because the floor was uneven, and every step the servers took made the chair wobble. So it was tiring throughout the meal. But the food itself is excellent.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS The staff wasn't very welcoming, especially the woman who seemed to be the "owner" or manager who served us. We were the last customers, it was 1:45 pm, and the waitress, the same woman, was more focused on clearing other tables than serving her customers. When we asked for dessert, she placed two menus on the table without a word. In short, the kind of person who's in the wrong profession, which is a shame because the food is actually very good. FYI, the air conditioning is just for show (that's the answer I got). So if you want to eat in a sauna, go for it.

I was greeted by very pleasant staff. There was no wait even though I hadn't booked (although it's always best to book). The service was very quick, and the Ardèche menu was generous and of high quality. Good value for money. I recommend it.

A very warm welcome. The staff are very attentive. A great introduction to Ardèche cuisine. The terrace overlooking the square is lovely.
