Le Grognard sur Riquewihr

Think one of the best restaurants in Riquewihr. The dishes were top notch. The atmosphere is very friendly. We were one of the first and thought: "oh, not many people, what will that be?" But the place will be completely full for 30 minutes. Justifiably! Laundry was great.

Just excellent, I highly recommend!

Perfect atmosphere, drinks and food

It was very busy in the restaurant and luckily there was still a seat for 2 for us. Afterwards, some guests were disappointed because it was completely full. And that's a good sign. There are a few gluten-free options. Great to come here for a bite to eat for a change

very warm welcome. super nice. good tartes flambées. on the other hand the desserts at 9.50 left us cold. 2 or 3 euros less and we would have gotten something. I am used to tiramisu in Italy for 5 euros...

Excellent burgers, fast service

Dear le Grognard team, thank you for the fine food and the good service. What was a bit difficult for us was that we arrived with our dog and then saw the signs. Luckily we were able to air condition our car. I searched all over the website for "no dogs" and unfortunately I couldn't find it. We respect your decision because you certainly have reasons. Maybe it's possible to show it more clearly on your website. So see you soon and without 4 legged friends 🐶

Only restaurant in Riquewihr (or is that like that in Alsace.,??. please confirm it if you know..) which serves you after 9 p.m....for that alone it is worth the detour but what's more the staff is nice and the menu tempting.

Maybe its too much time spent in Spain, but we have developed the habit of eating late – if you think 8.30pm is late. They certainly do in Riquewihr where we found eatery after eatery turning us away at that time on our first night with “kitchen’s closed” being the refrain. We spent three nights in the Schoenenbourg hotel (separate review) just outside the village centre so this was a problem – until we were directed to the Grognard by a kindly waiter at one of our “we’re shut” turn aways. The Grognard saved our evenings – and they go to the other extreme – we saw people arriving quite a bit after 10pm and being seated and served food. It’s a wonderful place in a cellar just inside the town walls. Whether it’s the subterranean setting or the choice of the management I don’t know, but the lack of Wi-Fi was a boon. Instead of eating in a library full of people staring at phones we were treated to that chatty buzz that used to enliven restaurants all over the country, when people went out to talk to each other as well as eat. The food is great – you can eat cheap or not so cheap – at the cheap end the flammkuches are magnificent. We also had salads, pain Catalan (only order one for two, as we discovered when two large plates arrived), and a whole host of other dishes – all very good. And if you like red wine, the Lirac is brilliant. Finally, the staff. As far as we could tell there were just two serving, a chap and a young lady who were very personable and incredibly organised. Considering that the place was always (unsurprisingly) full, whenever we went the service speed, whilst never very quick, was perfectly acceptable. It’s worth waiting for good stuff – and with good wine and no phone distraction, the conversation flowed to fill the short gaps. So, if you want to eat at 8.30pm or later then this is the place for you. And you know what – you’ll find yourself still there at 11pm – not because its slow, but because you won’t want to tear yourself away from the friendly, buzzing ambience. Encore une bouteille de Lirac, s’il vous plait!

Personal und Ambiente sind toll, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Alle Speisen die wir bestellt haben waren gut. Das Restaurant ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.
