We organized a little last-minute romantic getaway to Cotinière…! And we discovered Merluchon’s fish and chips…! Which we enjoyed with a small glass of white wine, on a bench, at sunset, facing the port! It was really good and, of course, the simplicity of the moment made it even more magical! In short, the best fish and chips of my life! ❤️

Excellent and authentic fish'n'chips. Having gone to London regularly for several years, I can affirm that the recipe is faithfully reproduced there: real fresh fish, excellent, perfectly crispy breading, good fresh fries made from Oléron potatoes. In the middle of the ketchup and mayo we find the tartar sauce classically served in Southern England.
However, you should expect a big queue during peak hours. Arriving around 12:30 p.m., we waited half an hour.

The whole thing is not salty at all, certainly there are salt shakers on the counter but when we have taken away the cone it is too late, it would be good to warn. The sauce (tartar) has no taste. And above all it's really super fatty, even for fish and chips, and the fries are nothing exceptional for home fries. In short, I don't understand the enthusiasm around this restaurant. Otherwise friendly service despite the wait and it's great to be able to eat on a bench in front of the port.

THE fish and chips. The hake is white, tender, tasty, nicely trapped in its crispy breadcrumbs. The portions are generous.
The fries quite honestly rival those of Belgian chip shops: a good size, golden on the outside and just cooked properly on the inside. We love it. We enjoy our cone on the bench facing the port, after having seasoned it with salt, seaweed or spices, and a generous drizzle of mayonnaise to spice it all up. It does the job and even very well in my opinion. Rv is taken for a little taste of “come back”, during a future visit to the island.
