Our first visit to the refuge and an excellent experience. The walk to the refuge allows you to get some fresh air and experience a "mountain" atmosphere that you don't find in Megève town center. The welcome is excellent, the food simple and delicious (we especially loved the génépi/pear soufflé for dessert). The only risk is that the refuge will become a regular stop on our future trips, but we'll need to book well in advance because it's definitely a place we recommend. See you soon! 🙂

Old style mountain atmosphere, beautiful secluded setting with great scenery, the food is excellent and portions generous. We had a 12h slow-cooked lacquered pig as main course and it was delicious. The restaurant is small so few tables and you need to book well in advance on high season

A warm mountain atmosphere, a rustic-chic setting like a cozy alpine cocoon that invites relaxation. The fondue, a star dish of the peaks, remains simple and unremarkable – nothing truly exceptional here. Only the Génépi soufflé stands out as a dessert virtuoso, with its airy lightness and alpine aroma that beckons you back. Inflated prices and sometimes sluggish service dampen the enthusiasm. Yet, this refuge with its timeless charm is well worth the climb.

We come back every year; Le Refuge du Calvaire is our favorite restaurant in Megève. The fondue is excellent, the atmosphere is cozy, and the service is impeccable. Thank you for the warm welcome, and see you next year! 😉

21/02/2026: We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Everything was delicious and well-presented, especially the frog legs, but everything else was great too. Can't wait to go back!
20/02/2026: We had a lovely meal here recently but the whole experience was tainted when the bill arrived. The server brought the card machine over and there was a suggested tip option. While this was optional, this is just not appropriate in France as service is always included (service compris). If someone wants to leave an optional tip, they can ask to add it, or leave cash, but it should not be the default option on the card machine as this is solely designed to catch out American tourists. This is the only restaurant that I have seen this option in all my holidays in France over many years! It felt like we were given this option as we were not speaking French, and I doubt they would have presented this option to a French speaking table. Very disappointing, especially for a Michelin recommended restaurant. RESPONSE TO RESTAURANT: Thank you for responding. Unfortunately I disagree that this is not within your control. The default screen for tips on your bank terminal is a feature that can be changed (you just may not want to). There is no other restaurant I have dined in in Megeve or France who has this as an option on the bank terminal. I would suggest you take this issue up with your bank so they can show you how to do it, as it affects the overall enjoyment for guests and leaves a negative impression of your intentions.
