L'Ecume des Jours sur Roscoff

A wonderful daily special and a chocolate dessert with an explosion of flavors in the mouth

Dinner for two. One of our (Belgian) favorite restaurants in Roscoff when we travel around Brittany. For the third time, we savored the freshness, originality, and lightness of the dishes, from the amuse-bouches to the dessert! The staff's friendliness and smiles added to the pleasure of the moment! Go without hesitation!

We booked this restaurant because the reviews seemed unanimous. We were disappointed, particularly by the service, provided by a gentleman who was on edge, his stress contagious, a bit touchy, and obsequious, constantly addressing us as "Gentle Ladies," which ultimately became quite irritating, even if his intentions were undoubtedly good. The small dining room is pretty, but the tables are far too close together to ensure any semblance of privacy. As for the food, it was good, with one major drawback: the fish tartare with mango, served lukewarm with a sloppy presentation. On the other hand, the filet mignon and the coffee-based dessert were beautiful and excellent. The wines we tasted were expensive for the quality in the glass. The Chinon white, sold for 45 euros (barely 15 euros in stores after checking), was not up to par; it was clearly mediocre, as was the IGP wine of the month, which was just okay (even though a markup of 3 is standard in restaurants). An establishment of this caliber should perhaps source wines from independent producers rather than from Metro. €45 for a bottle of wine is fine, but it should live up to the price. Given the very positive reviews, we probably just caught them on an off night; it happens.

Positive points: - Fast service - Good value for money for the €38 set menu - Negative points: - Part of my dish was served cold. - The food lacked flavor (and seasoning) in my opinion. - There were dogs in the dining room (they weren't assistance dogs). No one asked our permission when a couple sat down next to us with their poodle. Not great when you're allergic!

An excellent meal, cuisine where every ingredient is bursting with flavor! The vegetables are full of taste! The wine pairing is fabulous! The service is top-notch! In short, a wonderful experience!
