L'Escadre sur Dunkerque

14/03/2026: I visited this establishment on a Saturday evening after making a reservation. Upon arrival, we were welcomed into this charming little restaurant, conveniently located in Dunkirk. The decor reflects the owner's style: a warm, lively, and simple space that also reflects the overall ambiance of the place. The staff is pleasant and attentive, although there was a very slight misunderstanding regarding my order in the kitchen. This didn't affect my meal at all, as the staff were understanding and immediately rectified the situation, which clearly demonstrates their professionalism. As for the atmosphere, the dining room is a bit noisy, reflecting the lively spirit of Dunkirk, but don't expect a room where all you hear is the clatter of cutlery. The appetizers—the vol-au-vent and the roasted Camembert—were very good, the Camembert being perfectly seasoned. For our main course, we chose the classic Flemish carbonnade and the grey shrimp croquettes. The portions were generous, well-presented, and delicious. I must highlight the excellent preparation of the shrimp croquettes, which perfectly showcased the delicate flavor of these small crustaceans while remaining incredibly satisfying. The dishes are served with fries and a salad; other side dishes are available, and the staff is very accommodating to any special requests you might have. For dessert, we had French toast, a scoop of ice cream with caramel, and a Liège coffee. Simple, satisfying, and perfectly executed—we couldn't have asked for more. The French toast was warm, very soft, and bursting with flavor. In short, if you enjoy good food, appreciate simple, well-prepared, and flavorful regional cuisine, and enjoy the warm atmosphere of Northern brasseries, you will leave this establishment thoroughly impressed. I recommend it and I would gladly return.

13/03/2026: My husband had booked for my birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed the mussels with Maroilles cheese and the delicious homemade fries, finishing with a Dame Blanche (vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce). The service was quick once it got going, but still allowed us time to enjoy our drinks or meal. Absolutely fantastic, we'll be back!
