L'ideal 1850: Worth It For The Views Wow, this place is something else. You have to take a ski lift just to get there, but trust me – those Alpine views from the top are absolutely incredible. The massive deck overlooking Mont Blanc is where you want to be, serving up the quintessential Arès ski experience right on a platter. Fair warning: getting a table here on holiday weekends is like winning the lottery. Book way ahead or you'll be out of luck. And yes, the food and service could use some work, but let's be real – that's not why you're making the trek up here. You're coming for those jaw-dropping mountain views, and on that front, L'ideal 1850 delivers big time.

Disappointing Luxury Chalet Dining Experience We were prepared to pay the very high prices at this mountain chalet, sponsored by Giorgio Armani, expecting a premium experience. Unfortunately, the service and atmosphere were severely lacking. The restaurant was disorganized, with tables left uncleared for long periods, and napkins and litter scattered on the floor. The bathrooms were filthy, and there was no toilet paper—a glaring oversight for a supposedly luxurious establishment. We were seated in a second-floor room with no view, while the ground-floor dining area was much more appealing and offered a beautiful vista. The food was average, far from the level of refinement and quality that a luxury venue like this should deliver. Overall, the experience was disappointing. While we were willing to pay for luxury, the chalet failed to provide even the basics of cleanliness, service, or exceptional food. Not worth the price or the hype.

Un endroit superbe, une cuisine délicieuse et un accueil convivial… C’est un lieu magique, avec le Mont Blanc en gros plan, une équipe charmante et efficace, et une fort bonne cuisine… Une des plus chouettes tables de Megève !

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant L’Idéal 1850, up the mountain above Megève. You can go up there in summer hiking (1h30 from Megève, medium difficulty) or by Mont d’Arbois ski gondola departing from a station above Megève village (10’ ride then 5-10’ by foot/ski). The ambiance is definitely after-ski chic in this luxury chalet with jaw-dropping views. The food is very good: we got dried beef and fondue as well as berry tartlet. Staff was super nice. Only area of improvement I would say is help a bit more proactively the customers with cooking temperature of the fondue as we got too high temperature which dissolved part of the cheese into pure fat. That being said, highly recommended location. Price tag is high but that comes with the whole package.
