★★★★★ Quite Simply, the Best Steak Frites I Have Ever Had Our lunch at La Bourse et La Vie was truly exceptional... one of those quintessentially Parisian dining experiences that we will remember long after our trip is over. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with genuine warmth and made to feel completely welcome. We arrived just before the lunchtime rush and were shown to a wonderful, comfortable table. The hospitality was gracious and effortless from the very beginning... warm and attentive without ever being overly formal. After a brisk hour-long walk through Paris, two beautifully chilled glasses of Sancerre were exactly what we needed. With fresh bread and still water on the table, we settled in and immediately felt that we had found someplace special. We began with the selection of hors d’oeuvres, including a wonderfully fresh tomato salad and the poireaux vinaigrette with Piedmont hazelnuts. The leeks were superb, and the tomatoes were beautifully dressed, with an almost buttery richness that made something so seemingly simple absolutely delicious. Another creamy, almost tzatziki-like preparation was irresistible spread over the fresh bread. Every bite reminded us how extraordinary simple ingredients can be when they are treated with care. Then came the faux-filet de bœuf maturé origine France, sauce au poivre, with frites. I can say this without hesitation: this was the best steak frites I have ever had in my life. The French beef was cooked to absolute perfection... deeply flavorful, beautifully prepared and wonderfully tender. But the sauce au poivre was in a league of its own. Rich, savory and perfectly balanced, it was quite simply the finest peppercorn sauce I can remember tasting. And the frites! Absolutely scrumptious. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender inside and not remotely greasy. They were magnificent on their own and even better used to soak up every last bit of that extraordinary sauce au poivre. My husband and I both ordered the same dish, and we were equally blown away. For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée and the chocolate mousse. The crème brûlée was wonderful, but that chocolate mousse was something else entirely. It is easily one of the three best chocolate mousses I have ever eaten... intensely chocolatey, beautifully textured and somehow rich without being heavy. An extraordinary ending to an extraordinary meal. The service throughout was excellent. The young woman who looked after us was attentive, gracious and lovely, and the gentleman who greeted us, whom we believe may have been the manager or owner, could not have been warmer. We felt genuinely welcomed and beautifully cared for throughout our lunch. Paris is filled with restaurants, but there is something particularly special about a place that combines superb cooking, gracious hospitality, an intimate and comfortable atmosphere, and food that makes you stop mid-bite and look across the table at the person you're dining with. La Bourse et La Vie is that kind of place. Five stars without hesitation. We left completely delighted — and still talking about that faux-filet au poivre. An exceptional Parisian lunch and a restaurant to which we would return in a heartbeat.

Best meal we had in paris. Best steak and pomme frittes (so crispy from start to finish. Seriously best we have ever had. Also it was the best chocolate mousse as well. Service was wonderful, very romantic, and we can't wait to eat here again, just amaing

OMG truly one of the best meals of my life — I will think about this meal for many years to come. Immediately upon entering, the vibe of the place was perfect. What I loved most is right away the server said “dont worry about picking the starters, I’ll bring you what’s best” — and was that ever true. Some of the best appetizers I’ve had in my life. Spefically the leek + the tomatoes were my fav. Also worth mentioning this was our first dinner in France, and wow the French know butter, I will not be able to enjoy butter the same at home again. Our servers were both phenomenal + HUGE compliments to the chef. I thankfully was blessed to have a seat by the window near the kitchen, and I couldn’t help myself to knock and give a thumbs up. A MUST place to eat if you’re in Paris and want steak frites. Thank you! 🥰

I had, quite possibly, the best tomatoes of my life here. Lightly salted and on top of tonnato sauce, they were just so fresh and in season. In-season is the theme here as even vegetables done simply in lemon were fabulous. The chef is Japanese so it came as no surprise that the plate of the day, catfish came perfectly cooked, right on that edge between cooked and raw. Every sauce, garnish, and accompanying vegetables were intentional and well balanced. I would absolutely come again. Merci beaucoup, La Bourse et La Vie!

The hanger steak was superb, the rare steak-frites were perfect, and the leek vinaigrette was delicious. The setting and atmosphere were perfect. I was delighted!

took my family for lunch as i had read la bourse has the best steak frites in paris. they do. we cleaned our plates. also, had oysters with curry vinaigrette and scallions - amazing. and for desert our waiter gave me a treat bc i didn’t order desert and my wife and kids did - a lemon sorbet with thyme, chocolate and olive oil. this desert may be the best thing i’ve eaten in paris. 6 out of 5 stars.

Food is excellent but the experience wasn't even close. Waiter a bit pushy and condescending. The desert was fantastic.

Once upon a time we visited Spring and we still remembered the squab and how innovative, fresh and delicate it was. La Bourse still lives off that renomé but the food was uninspiring and bland except the sauce a poivre coming with the steak, which had a hint of darkness, secrecy to it. Unfortunately, the steak, while perfectly prepared au sangue was stale on the outside as were the fries. The highlight was the generously served desert: truly outstanding and surprising: a thyme infused sorbet with chocolate chips — out of this world! The waiters (2) were kind, efficient and indulged my feeble attempts at speaking french. At the end, an Americaine in Paris was fascinating but it seem Mr Rose has moved to richer grounds. If you want good bistro food you might as well try any of the many around headed by younger more ambitious chefs. Dont misunderstand my comments. All was good but the expectations were too high (and thus, maybe the prices). And sorry, the poireau (leeks) were fabulous! The bad review of the atmosphere had nothing to do with locale, must the fact that we were all the same …

Outstanding lunch. Had the tomato salad tonnato, oysters, and onglet steak frites, plus a thyme sorbet with olive oil. Recommend all the dishes. Service was extremely friendly.

This pepper steak is incredible!
