L'Oignon sur Strasbourg

Food was excellent - one of the best risotto I have ever eaten. Very busy on a Saturday night and by the time we had finished our main courses the noise levels had got so high we decided to pass on dessert

A restaurant right in the heart of Strasbourg, surrounded by thousands of tourists. Despite that, the food was amazing and the staff were friendly 😃

The staff was perfect despite the crowds and the heat. The food was excellent. The menu isn't extensive, which reflects the quality of the dishes. We had a rhubarb tart and a pear tatin for dessert, and it was absolutely divine. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy a pleasant meal.

Well, I thought this was just average, nothing special, and the service wasn't particularly attentive either; they didn't bring the extras I ordered. They preferred to chat at the bar. I'm only referring to the lady with the glasses, though.

Reserved for 7:00 PM (opening time). I arrived at 6:58 PM and a waitress politely asked me to wait outside, even though a table of four was already seated on the terrace. (Plus four others, but those were the staff finishing their meal.) I could have simply sat inside and waited two or three minutes. Otherwise, the onion soup was good, followed by potato pancakes with smoked salmon! Nice, but the pancakes weren't thin enough for my taste, lacking crispiness! And the service, while the staff were attentive and available, was too fast. They take their time in the evening, for goodness' sake! Serve quickly to free up the table! It's happening more and more often! My parents, who owned a restaurant, would be shocked, even if it was a different era.

It seems like reservations are essential for weekend or holiday dinners. I had Alsatian food, and everything was delicious, and the onion soup was especially good.

It's about time I posted regarding this wonderful establishment. On a trip to Strasbourg at end of November 2025 for football which also coincided with Christmas Market opening & having done a bit of homework picked L'Oignon & we were not disappointed. We ending up eating here on Wednesday evening when we arrived, Thursday lunchtime on day of game & Friday lunchtime as we left Strasbourg. All dishes we tried were beautifully cooked & full of flavour. Staff were friendly, welcoming, polite & professional. This place will live long in our memories. I would highly recommend it.
