We stopped by Naniwa-Ya for a quick Japanese meal. The place has a casual Japanese eatery vibe, nothing fancy, but comfortable enough for a straightforward meal. The katsu curry was probably the best thing we had. The curry sauce was nice, rich enough to be satisfying, and the fried cutlet was cooked properly with a decent crisp on the outside. It’s the kind of dish that’s hard to mess up, and this one did the job well. The udon, unfortunately, was a bit underwhelming. The broth lacked depth and flavour, and the bowl felt quite sparse in terms of ingredients. For what it costs, it didn’t quite deliver the comfort or richness you’d expect. It came across a little bland and slightly overpriced for what was served. The set salad was very average, pretty standard and nothing memorable. The gyoza, though, was the weakest part of the meal. The filling lacked flavour and the overall taste just didn’t work. Definitely something I wouldn’t order again. On the positive side, service was fast and efficient. Orders were taken quickly and food arrived without much waiting, which is always appreciated when you’re just looking for a quick bite. Overall, Naniwa-Ya is fine if you’re nearby and want something simple. The katsu curry is worth ordering, but other items on the menu feel hit or miss, especially considering the price point.

This ramen is really, really good; it was this restaurant that inspired me to try making it at home! In the end, I don't make it nearly as well, and I end up coming back here to eat ramen from time to time.

Restored a while ago, the restaurant has fortunately retained its midnight cafeteria feel, which suits it so well. Take advantage of the dinner menu (starting at 6:30 pm) to try a variety of dishes like gyoza, takoyaki (the best in the area), mabo-nasu, and maguro-natto. The zaru soba/udon (cold and also available at lunch) are also very good. The service is fast. For dinner, try to be there by 7 pm at the latest, otherwise you'll be waiting in line on the sidewalk.
