Papy Mougeot sur La Rochelle

We had lunch at this restaurant in May with about ten friends. I ate superbly well and drank very well too. The service was very good; it's a great place to eat in La Rochelle.

Just an amazing place! Very friendly service, tres sympa! Rich menu, a lot of choice. Service also is very fast and effective. Food was fresh, simple and delicious. Simplicity of the ingredients were very well complimented by pretty creative sauces. Everything was very balanced and tasted great. For the dessert as well wel took a mousse au chocolat and it was phenomenal!

A fantastic discovery: hake with absolutely delicious spelt risotto! The ingredients are fresh, the atmosphere and service are top-notch... and a special mention goes to the chocolate mousse with olive oil, chili, and fleur de sel 😻 I'll definitely be back next time I'm in La Rochelle.

A very good restaurant. The food was excellent and the flavors were truly exceptional. A minor point regarding the portion sizes, which we found a little small, and the cooking of the meat: ordered rare, it arrived rather pink. Aside from these two issues, the meal was of very high quality, the service pleasant, and we had a lovely time.

We had an outstanding meal at Papy Mougeot and it was one of the highlights of our trip. To start, I had the leeks while my partner chose the tomatoes. Both dishes were beautifully presented, full of flavour and showed how simple ingredients can be elevated with genuine skill. For our mains, I had the octopus while my partner enjoyed the steak. Both were cooked perfectly and were among the best dishes we’ve had in France. We couldn’t resist sharing the chocolate mousse for dessert, and we’re so glad we did. It was rich, indulgent and the perfect way to finish a fantastic meal. The food is honest, authentic French cooking with plenty of creativity, without ever feeling overcomplicated. Every plate felt carefully thought through and packed with flavour. The service was excellent from start to finish, warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming without ever being intrusive. The restaurant has a wonderful quirky personality, and its location is perfect, tucked just far enough away from the busiest part of the Old Port to avoid the chaos of a Saturday evening while still enjoying all the atmosphere that makes La Rochelle so special. Merci beaucoup to the whole team for a memorable evening. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and will be recommending Papy Mougeot to anyone visiting La Rochelle.

Great food, stopped in LA Rochelle on our way to the airport and found this gem. Definitely would recommend.

Everything was delicious, the place is centrally located but quiet and pleasant, the service was great. Vegetarian options were also available, and the oysters were very good.

Delicious and original cuisine. A little street away from the crowds. I discovered a delightful white wine and a chocolate mousse as good as mine (and I'm picky) with a truly unique touch: chili olive oil and fleur de sel. Being vegetarian, the waiter immediately suggested a dish that wasn't on the menu: a lightly lemony risotto with crisp vegetables! Absolutely amazing, I recommend it 300%!

Delicious French cuisine. Try the squid, highly recommended.
