Pizzeria San Remo sur Gerardmer

We walked past this restaurant where there was a queue before it even opened... Passing by again an hour later, the queue was shorter, so we thought, "Let's go in, it must be amazing!" We went in after a 5-minute wait to find the dining room far from full... in short... the organization was bizarre. We were seated, then the person left without a menu, nothing. Five minutes later, someone came back and said, "We didn't give you the menu, oops!" We ordered (there were five of us). Two dishes arrived, then the others 10 minutes later, so not great... The desserts were the same, a 20-minute wait, and the bottle of water wasn't any better... In short, the service was terrible, but never mind. As for the food, the pizzas were good (nothing exceptional, decent size, same for the toppings), the pasta and ravioli were very good, and the gnocchi in sauce needed more salt (but I didn't dare ask because it would probably have taken several hours to season). (arrives) We had two standard ice creams for dessert, no complaints. So much for appearances being deceiving: the food was quite good, but the service was absolutely terrible. Luckily, we weren't in a hurry.

We've been to this pizzeria several times before, but this last time we were disappointed. We arrived the day before they closed for vacation, and many items were missing. I acknowledge that this was indicated at the entrance, and I completely understand the need for fresh produce, but running out of bottled beer and the hot draft beer is unacceptable. The service staff, however, is always impeccable. One last, but important, detail: the black olives placed on the pizzas are inedible and of poor quality. A meal with friends at this restaurant during an evening event in the city, so it was quite crowded. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was very good, quick, and efficient, all delivered with a smile and friendliness from the staff. As for the decor, it's classic, understated, and modern. It's a pleasant place to be. Now, regarding the food, almost all of us opted for pizzas. The tomato-based pizzas were excellent. You could taste the ingredients, the tomato pulp... the calzone was cooked perfectly, and the egg was almost perfectly cooked... you can tell the ingredients are fresh, and it had all the flavors we love. Some people chose a cream-based pizza, like the raclette pizza... I tried it, and I have to admit that I found it a little unbalanced in terms of salt... I'll have to try it again because it did seem a bit out of place compared to the tomato-based pizzas, which were truly excellent! The prices are perfectly normal. Considering the setting and the quality, I was expecting it to be more expensive, but at under €20 it's actually quite affordable, and the products are well worth the price. A good place to remember if you're ever in the area.

We ordered takeout to get served earlier and avoid waiting for a table. The wait was quite long, but comfortable: seated on the terrace, they offered an aperitif. I imagine it's packed on a Friday night! We ate well and were very satisfied. Inside, the ambient noise is rather heavy, even though the atmosphere is pleasant. A great find!

This restaurant deserves so much more than its initial rating! The exterior is beautiful, the welcome was perfect, and everyone was so kind, smiling, and helpful! We had the €15 set menu with starter, main course, and dessert, and we were delighted 😁 The ingredients were excellent, and the dishes tasted exquisite, especially the arancini 😊 We highly recommend this restaurant; you won't be disappointed!

The food was fine. However, I'm more critical of the service. My wife ordered a three-course meal (starter, main, and dessert). I ordered a pizza. It arrived for me while my wife hadn't even received her starter. She had to ask for it herself. There were about twenty of us in our section. Not a single table escaped a mistake. Starters weren't served, main courses were brought without their sides, and special requests from customers were ignored. In short, there are a whole host of small things that need improvement in the service at this restaurant, which I therefore don't recommend. A shame.

Fantastic welcome and excellent service. My partner and I came to celebrate our two-year anniversary and had a wonderful evening. The food was high quality, the portions generous, and the staff simply exceptional. A big thank you to the San Remo team, and see you soon! 👋

The food was okay (the pizza dough was delicious!!!) but the atmosphere wasn't great. It felt very much like an all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant, "upscale but not too much so." The waiter was terrible on May Day. (They forgot about us.)
