Refuge du Roc de la Peche sur Pralognan-La-Vanoise

I was quite cautious when booking the refuge because various reviews had been mixed. But it turns out the owner has changed, and the quality and hospitality are back! We had absolutely no complaints, quite the opposite! Just one thing to keep in mind: it's not a typical "CAF" (French Alpine Club) refuge, but rather a hostel-style refuge. So you pay more, but the quality is also superior (showers, pool table, rooms, etc.).

We stayed at the Refuge du Roc with a group of 12 plus 2 guides for a star-shaped ski touring trip. The refuge was a perfect base camp! The climb from Pralognan is a good warm-up but quite accessible to all levels of skiers. The refuge is perfectly equipped, notably with a games room (pool table, darts, video projector), a sauna, and a Nordic bath, which make après-ski very enjoyable! The cook was super friendly, the service impeccable, and the meals delicious.

A charming mountain refuge, recently and tastefully restored. Special mention for the food, which is excellent! The valley is magnificent; we will definitely return.

What a wonderful place! After a beautiful day in the great outdoors, the Refuge du Roc offers a relaxing break in an idyllic setting. I particularly recommend the Nordic bath facing the mountains, followed by a sauna. 🤩 The chef delighted us all weekend, the staff is discreet, attentive, and caring. The bedding is top-notch. Since Alexandre took over, the Refuge du Roc is a place you absolutely must discover!

A magnificent guesthouse in a spectacular setting. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food is plentiful and expertly prepared. The common areas are welcoming, and the atmosphere is excellent. You can tell that the new team, at the helm for the past 15 months, is truly committed to doing things right. And it's working; they're transforming this unique place into a must-visit destination.

We were a group of eight and arrived in the late afternoon, after an easy, sunny climb up the snow-covered summer road (early February), which was perfectly groomed, so there was no need for snowshoes or touring skis… The hike takes about three hours for 8 km and 450 m of elevation gain. The scenery is magnificent, and the refuge is located on the site of a former monastery, of which only the small chapel remains. The building has been completely renovated; it's spacious and well-decorated, with small dormitories and even a few private rooms, relaxation and reading areas, a sauna, and a Nordic bath… in short, it's a VERY comfortable refuge! The staff is welcoming and friendly, and the food is simple but plentiful and delicious. A wonderful experience! The refuge is open until early April.

We didn't stay there. But the welcome and service were very friendly.
