Restaurant La Traverse sur Cenac-Et-Saint-Julien

We came across this local restaurant accidentally during out Dordogne trip and i thought it merits special mention. Although its appearance is of a robust local hotel/restaurant, the food that the two "filles" create is of Michelin star quality, the atmosphere is cozy and the staff (including the two ladies who own and run the place) are among the friendliest and fun we have met during out trip. We had our dog with us, who was also very welcome If you are in the area, I really recommend this place.

Restaurant: Disappointed, given the reviews that led us to choose this place. Very friendly welcome and pleasant atmosphere. Wines: very good. The main courses were excellent. Pastilla and duck breasts were perfect and generous. But: Foie gras: Small and bland, which is surprising for the region! Desserts were truly disappointing. Millefeuille: soggy pastry and mediocre cream. Strawberry tiramisu: not a single biscuit, which is the foundation, even if it's a modern twist. Mijito: where's the rum? So... Disappointed.

A very good restaurant, ideally located between Domme and the Marqueyssac Gardens. We received a very warm welcome and had lunch inside in a pleasant setting. At first, the restaurant was very quiet (we were the only ones there), but it quickly filled up and, understandably, became a bit noisier. As for the food, you can immediately tell it's homemade, with quality ingredients and carefully prepared dishes: Starters: roasted green asparagus with house-smoked duck breast / semi-cooked foie gras (very well done) Main Courses: hake with citrus sauce and creamy risotto, as well as a lamb pastilla confit with mild spices, original and flavorful Desserts: profiteroles and sorbets, very good The non-alcoholic aperitifs (strawberry virgin mojito and piña colada virgin) were also excellent. All this for around €90, which is reasonable given the quality of the ingredients and the skill in the kitchen. Overall, a very good experience: an address that is definitely worth a visit in the area.
