A heavenly place to stop for a break, but be careful, it's better to be prepared, because the service is of the "rough" type, under the background of grumbling between the grandpa who does the service and his wife who cooks and who puts impossible pressure on him, it's laughable and many of us were bursting with laughter on the terrace to see them both grumbling... Still, the porcini mushroom omelettes were excellent and the blueberry tart idem!

An establishment with character! The home cooking is excellent (ah the blueberry pie… which is worth its weight in blueberries and euros but it’s forgiven 😊) The waitress was very friendly and helpful regarding the owners, you have to know how to “caress them in the direction of the hair” and everything is fine (we are in the Hautes Alpes). The setting is superb, it's a shame that the motorbikes and the smell of fuel spoil it.

Very nice little restaurant/grocery store at the top of the Col de Vars. Country atmosphere which I personally love. The sandwiches are much more plentiful than in an urban bakery.

I have given 5 stars because I really liked this place and I think it unfair it got so many negative reviews on the French site. Ok, it’s not fine dining but we had very good ham and cheeses crepes and nice cold beer. The views were simply stunning; we sat in the sun looking at 9 snow capped mountains . The couple running the place were lovely, friendly and welcoming.

A small inn in all its simplicity and authenticity, run by Aïcha and Jean Marcel, homemade tartlets, homemade jams! You can have a good time chatting over a cup of coffee or something, don't look for fuss! Here it's natural in a magnificent place! Omelette for a cyclist or a motorcyclist or campervans that we are! Thank you Aïcha and Jean Marcel, looking forward to seeing you again 🙏

Hotel-Restaurant Le Chal'heureux

18/08/2024: Having come to stay one night in this establishment, we first appreciated the privileged setting. We reached the place using our car, even though they offered to pick us up at the station. Arriving at 3 p.m., this gave us time to go for a walk in the surrounding area. We were able to see marmots everywhere. The room offered had a beautiful view of the mountains and although simple it was perfect. Note that I was pleasantly surprised to find at this altitude a bathroom with enough pressure and hot water to take a good shower. Our meals (dinner and breakfast) were taken on site. Everything was good and plentiful, for a very reasonable price considering the location and conditions. Finally, we appreciated the welcome and sympathy of the entire team. We will return there this winter as a family.
08/08/2024: The spot is great and the food is good. However, the prices are excessive: €27 for a bacon burger, which is a shame. I can understand inflation, but the end customer cannot and should not absorb everything. So, I stick to a simple dish without dessert. It ruins the vacation experience a bit.
