Rifugio I RE MAGI sur Nevache

A very warm welcome and excellent meals. The polenta is superb! A lovely break after the hike. No credit cards accepted.

Arrived just after meal service, like 2:30pm. They weren’t serving anything warm anymore. Understandable if you’re used to European dining norms but disappointing nonetheless. They did have sandwiches to purchase although these were very basic and simple. The staff spoke French, English and Italian however surprisingly as it is in France, the staff seemed like they were mostly Italian. Beautiful valley to be in. Very very nice. Rough road to drive in on. Go slow and watch the potholes. Beautiful setting.

A refuge nestled in the beautiful narrow valley, an enchanting place. We stopped for one day to visit our friend Manuel, who works here, and we had a wonderful time: it's a refuge in terms of accommodation, but it's truly clean, well-maintained, and the staff are very helpful. The dinner was excellent, with polenta concia, sausages, and homemade appetizers; the lunch à la carte menu was also excellent. A truly superb location in an almost "Dolomite-like" valley, just a few kilometers beyond the Italian border. Definitely worth a visit!

We had lunch, not a stay. 4 polentas, 1 pasta dish, 1 salad, 2 waters, and 2 coffees, 83 euros. The staff was unfriendly, sometimes even surly. The polenta was delicious, but a 4-euro bottle of water surprised us; even the 12-euro price tag for a salad is questionable. Personally, the fact that electronic payment is still not available in 2026 seems out of place to me, considering that the antennas on the roof demonstrate a good connection. I do appreciate the lack of sharing the Wi-Fi and forcing customers to talk. The view is stunning. P.S.: Don't go near the darts unless you're already a pro who never misses the target; they might resent it.

Having arrived from Mont Thabor, the welcome we received for our bivouac was perfect! It's a private site, with a few spots right below the refuge, but they were ideal. The welcome was simple and friendly; in short: I highly recommend it!

I stopped after an excursion to the green lake... I ate delicious polenta.

Stunning location, exceptional climate, friendly and efficient waiters and owners despite the place being always fully booked, especially in the summer... Top!!!

We loved our stay during our Mont Thabor hike. Amazing food, great people, lots of kindness and the best aperitivo on the trail!!

A beautiful mountain refuge with a magnificent view, and very friendly and helpful staff! I had a wonderful time with my friends. I highly recommend it!

Thank you again for your hospitality. Having arrived at the last minute, I was welcomed and generously fed (polenta with tomato sauce, sausage, tiramisu, and a drink), and it was excellent. You'll probably be receiving a postcard from Clermont-Ferrand soon! I'll be back... but with company!
