Here, they serve simple, straightforward, unpretentious, family-style Italian food—the kind you eat at home, not the kind that's put on a show. The dishes are prepared on-site with precision and generosity. No showboating: they focus on the essentials, on flavor, on passing down traditions. You immediately sense that the cuisine is a family affair, both in the welcome and in the food itself. One slight drawback, however: the wine list. Italy is brimming with remarkable vineyards and magnificent wines, and the restaurant doesn't offer any truly outstanding selections. Nothing insurmountable, but it's an area for improvement given the richness of Italian winemaking. This doesn't detract from the essential point: Sale e Pepe is an authentic, welcoming place where people come to eat real Italian food, not to follow a trend. A simple, honest—and precious—restaurant in the Parisian scene.
