I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the café Shoukâ in Galeries Lafayette, Annecy, France. This café is truly a gem for anyone who loves specialty coffee, and cacao. I tried the 85% hot chocolate with two added espresso shots, and it was absolutely delicious — rich, intense, and perfectly balanced. We also had the cheesecake, which was excellent: a high-quality, creamy filling and a nicely crisp crust. One of the best I’ve had in a while. The place is very popular, so finding a table isn’t always guaranteed, but it’s definitely worth waiting a bit. It makes for a perfect break in the middle of a shopping session in the mall, thanks to the outstanding quality of both drinks and pastries. Highly recommended for chocolate and coffee lovers.

A mixed experience on this Saturday afternoon. The products are interesting and of good quality, and the setting is pleasant. However, the service could be better organized: about a 15-minute wait to place an order (with a rather cold welcome), then another 15 minutes before being served. The staff, though present in sufficient numbers (7 people!), seemed more focused on cleaning than on serving customers. A better balance of priorities would undoubtedly make for a smoother and more enjoyable experience.

Please put felt pads under the chair legs... it will be more pleasant in terms of noise. Thank you

I often visited Annecy, and I discovered this coffeeshop early on. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and I especially loved the precise recipes and the quality of service. But in the last few months, some things have deteriorated, in my opinion: A high turnover of staff, who probably don't have the same experience as the old team, as there are many more of them, yet they're slower and running around everywhere (fortunately, there's still a lady I know and who serves delicious chocolates (she just needs to be there more often).) Also, has the chocolate recipe changed? It used to be much frothier and creamier. The drinks are sometimes served in small bowls (because there's more in them than in the cup). I remain attached to this place, but nostalgia for that "old" quality often comes back to me.

Delicious and fortunately because there are still 6 people behind the counter and only 1 to serve while the others look at you...or not and prefer to chat...surely about their intensive activity!

My favorite roaster, where I've been a loyal customer for a long time. The coffee is always excellent, both to go and to enjoy in-house, with beautiful and flavorful drinks. The advice when purchasing is generally helpful, even if the high turnover makes it difficult to find a reliable contact. The prices are a little high, and the lack of a terrace is a shame (especially since inside, located in the galleries, the atmosphere can sometimes be noisy). Nevertheless, the quality remains there, and I continue to return with pleasure. One small drawback lately: it seems that recruitment prioritizes the number of staff over experience and a passion for coffee. The service is fast, but less warm and friendly than before. It's a shame, because the place deserves to retain the human touch that made all the difference.

I'm grateful that I can enjoy a variety of iced drinks while enjoying the air conditioning in the middle of summer. The staff are friendly, the drinks are varied, and they taste great. It's a place where you want to have two, not just one. I also bought a drip coffee machine(?) at the store today, and they were very helpful and even taught me the drip recipe. We've been loyal customers since it opened, and we love having our coffee at Shouka. However, the service has deteriorated significantly since our last visits. Orders are extremely slow, even though there's often a wait, and the waiter ignores you until you finally place your order, without a smile. Furthermore, this isn't the first time our coffee has been served overflowing everywhere around the cup. At the price of drinks, the least we could do would be to bring a napkin. In short, the place is nice and deserves its reputation, but it's a shame that it's slowing down. If this changes, I'll update my rating.
