UPDATE: I came back to Aix 5 months after writing my first review to take a holiday for my Birthday. I was afraid after reading the poor reviews that something changed since I was here. Do not let the reviews stop you for enjoying my favorite cafè in Aix. The espresso is the smoothest I ever had and the pastries are amazing. I love sitting outside in the shade in the morning watching the market set up or people walk by. The evening as the sunsets the tables outside get some beautiful sun. The service I receive is amazing. I go here every single morning since my Airbnb in the square. A day that I do not go here for my almond crossiant and espresso would be a day wasted in Aix. OLD POST: Came to Axe while visiting on a cruise to see the French market on a Saturday. After reading online for the best cafè in Axe, people recommend this place. I had the smoothest and best Espresso I ever had. I got a few pastries but everything looked so good, it was hard to choose. Everytime I go to Axe, I will always come back here. It was my first time in France, after reading some reviews I can see where people may have had a bad experience with service. To me the server seemed cold but I have heard in the United States we make alot of small talk where other countries don't so I didn't take it to heart. The women behind the pastry case when we walked in greeted us and was very nice. She said you usually order at the table but you can choose from the case here if its easier and we can bring it to you, so I did. This cafè made my trip to Axe amazing, I wish I could live above it and come down everyday for breakfast.

The pastries were excellent, and the service was also pleasant. However, for the price, I was very disappointed with the matcha latte. There was far too much undiluted powder, resulting in a huge amount of lumps; half of it was undrinkable. This type of preparation requires expertise before it can be offered on the menu. 😕

We tried the stuffed crepes served in February with a croque monsieur as a main course. I recommend it, it's very good. 50.00 Euros for two.

We had a lovely breakfast at this now-iconic establishment in Aix-en-Provence. The servers are pleasant and professional. The pastries are delicious; I particularly recommend the Paris-Brest. The interior is very charming, perfect for a romantic evening!

I tried the Castel. It's perfect. Very light and with delicate praline flavors. The service was very friendly.
