19/08/2026: A delightful surprise! While cycling along the Allier River, we enjoyed an unexpected and delicious break. The setting was lovely, and the sweetbreads were generous. We left feeling incredibly energized...phew, the return trip by bike is going to be tough!

16/08/2026: Auberge du Pont du Canal, by definition a friendly and pleasant place where life is good? Hmm, the definition needs revising for this establishment. We wanted to have lunch one day, two adults and a 16-month-old baby. We asked if there was a table available. We could already tell that having a baby was a problem. They found us a table and, so as not to disturb the other customers too much, we asked for a quiet corner. They offered us a high chair, a nice touch! We placed our order; the waitress was very friendly. Our little one started to get a bit restless; she was hungry. The appetizers arrived, but they weren't what we had ordered. However, we didn't pay much attention to that, knowing there were variations between shrimp and prawns in the appetizers, as well as between foie gras and smoked duck breast. Anyway, we started eating and feeding our little one. The owner, who everything suggests is indeed the owner, stormed in, furious, and told us it wasn't our food we shouldn't have eaten. We apologized, explaining that we were more focused on our child, trying to keep his crying and whimpering quiet so as not to disturb the other guests. She stormed back to the kitchen, clearly unhappy, and a few moments later I followed her to apologize again. What a joy to be called an "idiot" in the kitchen! I immediately asked for the meal to be cut short, which is indeed against restaurant regulations. We took our food and decided to leave, feeling rather uneasy about the rest of our stay in the region. It's a shame that families aren't appreciated in an inn with an appealing menu but a less-than-welcoming welcome. I also want to point out, for your own improvement, that serving industrial hamburger buns for a €19 burger is a real eyesore. Thank you again for your hospitality; we will certainly recommend it to everyone we know. PS: Your waitress is pleasant and friendly; we hope she keeps it up!
