08/02/2026: Eager to experience this magical lantern display inspired by Alice in Wonderland, we set off on a 3-hour drive. We arrived just in time for the 6 pm opening, but our first problem was the parking lot, which was far from the site and had no safety barriers whatsoever. We had to walk along the road in the middle of traffic. Inside the site, although thousands of boardwalks had been installed, they were waterlogged and unstable, and where there weren't any, it was slippery and dangerous. The castle is magnificent, the park and the lights superb, and despite the crowds, the magic was definitely there. However, I can't give it 5 stars because after the drive and the 2-hour walk in the park, we wanted to eat at the snack bar. After a 45-minute wait, we were told they were out of sandwiches and hot dogs, only fries 😡. So, rather than prolong the magic, we went to eat elsewhere outside. Regarding the price, while of course you have to pay for all these facilities, I think some services were no longer available compared to the beginning, even though the price remains the same. We were left wanting more, both literally and figuratively.

08/02/2026: We would never have booked at Castel Novel Castle if it weren't for the Lantern Festival, presented as a highlight of the experience. This is clearly what motivated our visit and our two-night stay. The disappointment stems primarily from the prices, which are completely disproportionate to the overall experience. For these prices, you don't expect: • cold hotel corridors, • a messy breakfast room with dishes left uncleared after guests (breakfast was eaten between 10:00 and 10:30 AM both days), • restaurant rooms so poorly heated that you practically had to eat in your coat (we were clearly not the only ones complaining), • festival equipment that malfunctioned repeatedly both evenings, cutting out the lights and atmosphere, • a path through thick, sticky mud, making the visit uncomfortable and unpleasant – I came home with ruined shoes from the mud and soaked (and consequently freezing!) feet – no one had mentioned that the path was largely on slippery, mud-covered boardwalks. In addition to this, there was a serious problem in the room: water leaked through the French doors, leaving the carpet soaked for about 60 cm. My suitcase, placed on the floor, absorbed all the moisture and was damaged. However, I would like to highlight a second positive point: having spontaneously paid for the festival tickets, not realizing that the event was taking place at the foot of the castle, the receptionist did not charge me for breakfast as compensation. It's also worth noting a real strength in terms of dining: the dishes were excellent, very well prepared, both at La Passion de Colette restaurant and Chez Henri restaurant. On the other hand, I do not recommend either the hotel or the dining rooms in winter, especially for those who are sensitive to the cold. Considering the prices charged, the overall experience is clearly mixed.

08/02/2026: Back to La Calèche. The galettes and crêpes are still as good and generous as ever. A real treat. Quite busy for a Friday lunchtime, so the service was a little slow, but nothing too bad. Cocktails are a bit pricey but very good. Special mention for the Viennese hot chocolate, wonderfully smooth and generously topped with whipped cream. It's nice to have real hot chocolate and not a Nesquik 🫶 Thank you and see you soon!

01/02/2026: A great place to spend a pleasant evening enjoying music on Friday and Saturday nights. Good food and impeccable table service.
