Au Vieux de la Vieille sur Lille

I discovered L’Estaminet Au Vieux De La Vieille in Lille, and it’s definitely a must-visit for experiencing authentic Northern French cuisine. Located in Vieux-Lille, the setting is typical and authentic, with a warm decor reminiscent of Flemish traditions. From the moment you arrive, the welcome is friendly and welcoming. The team is professional, dynamic, and very attentive to service. You can feel the real organization, even when the restaurant is full. As for the food, it’s a real treat. The regional specialties are generous and flavorful: Welsh rarebit, Flemish carbonnade, local dishes… everything is prepared with care and respect for traditional recipes. The portions are substantial, and the value for money is excellent. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, perfect for a meal with friends or family, or for introducing visitors to Lille’s gastronomy. For its authenticity, the quality of its dishes, the professionalism of its service, and the typical atmosphere of Old Lille, L’Estaminet Au Vieux De La Vieille is clearly one of the best restaurants in Lille. I highly recommend it.

Friendly welcome, smiling waiter. The setting is rustic, a bit chilly upstairs; a few degrees warmer would have been appreciated. We were seated in a corner by two walls, less than 30cm from the next table: you have to be comfortable with close quarters. The food is good, the portions are large enough to leave room for dessert. I would have liked a little salad to accompany my carbonnade. Regarding dessert: I imagined the chocolate merveilleux would be similar to the merveilleux, but there were very few meringues.

A warm atmosphere with rustic decor that perfectly suits old Lille. The apple and black pudding tatin is to die for! And the Flemish carbonnade is absolutely divine. We live in the Paris region, and I'll only come back to eat this!

There's a wait on Saturdays, but you can see why! Vintage, the food is simple but perfect, the staff is very friendly and efficient, and the Maroilles tart is delicious 🙂
