The waiter was decidedly too familiar, the service was a bit slow, no carafe of water was offered, and he wasn't keen on a dog bag. The food was fundamentally lacking in seasoning.

A typical Alsatian inn with delicious food. The service is impeccable. It's a place I wholeheartedly recommend and where I'll definitely return if I'm ever in the area again, perhaps even making a slight detour so I don't miss it.

Very few customers this Friday at lunchtime. We ordered two set menus on special offer. We were very disappointed with the starters, and the side portion of potatoes with the main course could have been more generous.

We ordered the fish sauerkraut (listed on the menu as plaice, smoked haddock, and salmon). Alas, a huge disappointment; no haddock, salmon cut into cubes, and a tiny, 5cm piece of plaice, very thin indeed! The sauce was made with mayonnaise! The cook wasn't even at the level of an apprentice! What a letdown for the price. We complained, and the waiter replied, "We're out of haddock." Once we'd finished, the waiter asked if we wanted dessert, saying it was on the house; we said yes. To top it all off, when the bill arrived, the owner charged us for the fish sauerkraut.

L'estaminet des Bords de L'ill

29/12/2025: A 3-night stay over the holidays, good value for money and a welcoming staff. Everything went smoothly. The hotel isn't brand new, but the bathroom has been renovated and the bedding is comfortable; I felt right at home. The beautiful view of the Ill River adds a lot of charm to the hotel.
14/12/2025: Very good. A little lacking in sound insulation.

31/01/2026: A good roadside restaurant. Good food and reasonable prices... always packed, which proves it's a good place.
14/12/2025: Great restaurant – truly good, simple, and delicious food. The service was very pleasant and full of little touches that made all the difference (pretzels as an appetizer, plenty of bread, bredele and chocolate with coffee). Thank you again to the whole team! Table of 6 with 2 children
