Brasserie Le Central sur Trouville-Sur-Mer

A true institution in Normandy, offering beautiful products and a superb menu. However, the wait is relatively long.

We dropped by on a Saturday shortly after two and were seated immediately. A table on the terrace was possible with a short wait, while inside tables were going begging, so we opted for the dining room. Menus appeared at once, service was brisk, and everything looked fresh and appetising. I chose the lobster tagliatelle: perfectly respectable pasta in a rich tomato sauce, crowned with half a small lobster. Unfortunately, the lobster’s presence was more visual than culinary—the taste of the crustacean remained curiously elusive. My partner had the smoked haddock with spinach and potatoes: generous, satisfying and difficult to fault. Our son, displaying considerable ambition, chose the choucroute. He was warned that it was enormous, and enormous it duly was—a small mountain of sauerkraut laden with assorted meats and kept piping hot on its own warming plate. He made a valiant effort, and it was very good. Desserts did not disappoint. The île flottante was light and delicious, while the chocolate mousse was gloriously dense and buried beneath a generous drift of chocolate shavings. The bill came to €150 for the three of us, without wine. Not cheap, certainly, but neither did it feel disappointing—rather, it delivered exactly what I had hoped for from a celebrated brasserie: lively service, generous portions and classic food served without unnecessary ceremony.

My partner and I came to this wonderful restaurant, recommended by friends. A few points to highlight and commend! The chefs do a remarkable job, going beyond the cooking, presentation, and quality of the dishes – 1000/10!! Special mention to Xavier, our waiter. He perfectly combines his profession with professionalism, humor, kindness, and helpfulness! Our sincere thanks! However, I find the table layout on the terrace rather cramped; the waiters are practically tripping over each other. For their comfort, I think the best solution would be to change the layout. A major drawback!!!! This deducts a star from what would have been a perfect rating: the very young gentleman who greets people, dressed in a suit and tie with rather light eyes – a blatant lack of professionalism! He doesn't finish his sentences and leaves, he sighs in front of the customers, complains... not exactly a great guy. If he maintained his image throughout and with a natural smile would be ideal! A fantastic experience at Central! The mussels were absolutely delicious 😍 And a huge thank you to Edgar, who was so lovely, incredibly friendly, and took such good care of us throughout the meal. It really made all the difference! We'll definitely be back 😊
