Good restaurant overall, very helpful but disappointed by the simplicity of the dishes, the cassoulet for example, is underdeveloped.

I come back every year, especially since my favorite waitress flits between the tables, smiling, bubbly, and attentive to the customers... That little extra touch from the French. How could I not come back?

I rarely leave reviews after a visit to a restaurant, but this time I was truly impressed! It's been a long time since I've been surprised by the dishes I order, but this time I was blown away. The presentation is very attractive and original, and the roasted Camembert is simply divine, as is the truffle cream my partner ordered. There's simply nothing to criticize; I highly recommend this establishment. They welcome you in a lovely setting with a genuine smile. Thank you again!

It's one of those places that unfortunately starts off very well but leaves you feeling disappointed. We went without a reservation, and the waitress did everything she could to find us a table. Great. The first waitress didn't speak Spanish or English, so she called another one who served us even in Spanish without any problem. Very professional, she even explained the dishes on the menu, since although they're also in English, there are French ingredients that we didn't know about. The portions are very generous; you have to order one per person, although you might end up sharing, which we didn't mind. The food was very good; the place couldn't have looked better... and that's where things go wrong. It was horribly hot inside, since, like most French places, they don't have air conditioning. The place was very crowded, and when we finally got a waitress to pay attention to us, it was precisely the one from the beginning who didn't understand us. We thought they would call another one to serve us, but to our surprise, that didn't happen, and we waited quite a while until another one finally paid attention and served us. And to top it all off, while we were waiting to pay, we saw a cockroach come out of the kitchen... We hope it was an isolated incident due to the heat, since the entire place and bathrooms were very clean, but we feel obligated to mention it. As I said, a place that's both very good and very bad. We'd think twice about returning.

A fantastic discovery! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from start to finish: the dishes were delicious and generous. The staff is very welcoming, attentive, and highly professional. All this in a truly pleasant setting, which greatly enhances the enjoyment of the meal. A wonderful experience, both for the food and the atmosphere. An address we wholeheartedly recommend and where we will gladly return!

We stopped by for lunch today and were very pleased with the welcome, the service, and the quality of the food (Gaulois salad, Gaulois charcuterie board with its unsalted butter (made locally in Brittany) and Bergerac rosé AOC wine). We highly recommend this place.

A good restaurant to take a break from Périgord specialties. I highly recommend the place.

Always a great experience at Le Gaulois. We go there every time we're in the Dordogne, and have been for about ten years now! Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed the salads, the shredded meats, and the melted cheese dishes 😋 The children's menu is a mini version of the adult menu, which means they don't have to worry about the usual steak or nuggets and chips... The service is always very friendly. We love it, our children love it, and we'll definitely be back on our next trip to the Dordogne 🥰

The setting is lovely and the staff friendly, but the food is very average. The duck parmentier is bland and rather dry. The Dordogne cream soup is small and swimming in grease. The salads that accompany the dishes are also rather uninspiring.
