Christopher Coutanceau sur La Rochelle

A first visit, but certainly not the last, to a magnificent setting where we learned about the culinary arts from Messrs. Coutanceau and Brossard. The service was seamless and highly professional, yet discreet and very friendly, with refined cuisine, a multitude of flavors so perfectly combined, served on superb tableware. The menu and service were exceptional from beginning to end. Michelin should be awarded four stars; you'll easily earn them. A huge congratulations to the entire team for all the work done behind the scenes that allowed us to have an unforgettable lunch.

A magnificent "Sea Trip," named after the tasting menu! The dish that impressed me the most was "The Whole Lobster," from head to tail, but especially the contrasting textures, from ice cream to potato chips. The most memorable lobster I've ever had in any fine dining restaurant. Of course, the other dishes also brought their own unexpected qualities and flavors (I'm thinking of the mussels and the ever-popular sardine). The service is friendly, warm, attentive, and not at all stuffy. The view of the bay is exceptional. It was a real treat to dine at this restaurant, which is well worth the trip.

I'd like to begin by commending the service, which was excellent from start to finish. The team was young, dynamic, friendly, and highly competent. As for the food, the mouclade (mussels in white wine sauce) was a standout, as was the sauce accompanying the lobster, a signature dish on the menu. However, we felt something was missing from the rest of the meal—it was still quite good and well-executed, don't get us wrong—but we simply expect more from a three-Michelin-starred restaurant. The same goes for the presentation and the quality of the tableware (I'm not referring to the silverware). Finally, regarding the setting, the view over the Gulf of La Rochelle is superb, and we were treated to thunderstorms skirting the gulf, making the spectacle all the more breathtaking. That said, the restaurant's layout and decor sometimes give the impression of being dated and in need of a refresh. We had a lovely evening and don't underestimate the team's effort, but for us, on that particular night, two stars would be a definite yes, but not three.

An exceptional meal, a truly timeless experience, nothing to criticize. The seaweed/chocolate praline and the shrimp appetizer were sublime.

It is definitely a 3-star restaurant specializing in seafood, showcasing high-quality and creative dishes. However, Japanese influences are visible throughout, so if you were expecting classic French seafood cuisine, you might find it a bit disappointing.😅

Here we are, a dream come true: dining at this restaurant simply for the pleasure of being there and enjoying seafood dishes, we who come from the mountains. The setting is magnificent, and that only adds to the enjoyment of the rest of the evening. The weather is beautiful, the sun is setting, and we savor every moment. The owner is working in the kitchen while his partner, Mr. Brossard, tells us about the history of the family and the establishment. A little bit of history, perhaps. As for the courses that follow, they all captivated us. The presentation, the visuals—everything is exquisite, and the flavors are superb. The discreet yet attentive staff all contributed to a truly wonderful experience. Thank you.

While the dishes are creative and generous, the service is equally exceptional. The attention to detail and the care given to the guests are outstanding. The course unfolds like a perfectly choreographed ballet: time flies by, only the magnificent sunset signals the evening's progress. The cuisine is beautifully flavorful and sophisticated (the sardines were unforgettable!). Thank you to the entire team for this memorable evening.
