Clamato sur Paris

Heatwave aside, we really enjoyed our dinner here. The seafood game is strong and so is are the raw dishes, especially the cuttlefish tagliatella resembling the traditional peanut sauce style noodles. However, portions are crazy tiny. We shared a monkfish as a main which was barely three bites.

Delicious food, exceptional attention to detail. It's true there were a lot of Americans, but in my opinion it's not a tourist scam and is definitely worth it. Best dinner in Paris in a year and a half! PS: The carafe d'eau was free.

The food was incredible. They do not take reservations so I walked in at 7:15pm on a Wednesday. It was surprisingly easy to get a spot. I chose to sit outside even though inside is definitely the recommended way to go. The outside has 4 bar/window seats. It was my last night in Paris and I wanted to see the people go by. While I was sitting there a stranger walking by said, “Is this your first time at Clamato? You absolutely must get the cuttlefish linguine. I order two every time I come.” This dish was one of the best dishes I’ve eaten in recent memory. There’s no pasta, the fish itself is cut into pasta like strips. I also loved the ceviche and oysters which came with a watermelon mignonette which was perfect for summer. The only dish I wouldn’t get again was the green beans; the sauce they came with had a fish saucey after taste which wasn’t for me. I loved how there were Asian influences to the dishes. Yet, everything was bright and fresh. Finally, while in Paris I befriended a shop keeper who runs a curious little business selling seashells and turning them into art. It was a fun personal Easter egg to see that Clamato had decorated the bathroom with his shells.

Overhyped and overpriced. Full of tourists (mostly American) which the restaurant takes advantage of by charging for water and requesting tips at the end of the meal. The staff was very nice and the seafood is fresh but beyond that the dishes were unremarkable. The asparagus was very bland. Oysters are just oysters and does not require a chef to serve. It feels like a tourist trap. Sadly, I would not recommend.

Good service, good taste, and reasonable price.

Basic: the seafood itself is great quality, but the sauces and accompaniments are unimaginative. Service is patchy: the waitress did not bring utensils for the crab, and insisted that service was not included in the prices as she handed over the credit card machine with an extra service of 5, 10, or 15%. Must have been their “let’s put one over the tourists thing.” To be fair, there were no French people at the restaurant. Overpriced and overhyped.

Clamato: very high expectations that were not disappointed! The dishes lived up to expectations. The only slight drawback: the bill was a tad high for the concept.

Excellent food. The prices aren't cheap, and the service is a bit slow, but the quality is there. You have to arrive very early to get a table.
