Grand Cafe Riche Montpellier sur Montpellier

A must-visit when in Montpellier. Not only does this restaurant transport you back to the Belle Époque, respecting the period's traditions: uniformed staff, white tablecloths, and monogrammed tableware, but it also boasts excellent cuisine. From the aperitifs (an iced lemon-mint-ginger drink... a dream!) to the desserts, including the starters, main courses, and bread (served piping hot, fresh from the oven), everything was more than perfect. The portions are generous and the presentation is exquisite. And finally, the service! We were served by Tanguy, who regularly inquired about our satisfaction throughout our dinner, as did his colleagues. Everyone is exceptionally efficient and highly competent, and Tanguy perfectly embodies customer service, exactly what we expect when entering a restaurant: efficiency, competence, friendliness, and warmth. Café Riche truly lives up to its reputation, thanks to the quality of its staff as well as the excellence of its cuisine. If you're in Montpellier, you'll inevitably find yourself on Place de la Comédie, so you absolutely must sit down at one of their tables. Very well located and certainly one of the most beautiful terraces in France. Very professional service. The food is average but suited to the place, which is more geared towards having a drink.

Good food, and the service seemed nice. However, we had to wait very long for the main course (around 45 min) even though not a lot of people were there.

A wonderful discovery on Place de la Comédie. We went three times this week, and each time the waiter was incredibly kind (the gentleman with the beard). The setting is fantastic; we ate on the terrace under large parasols equipped with fans, which was wonderful in this heat, especially one evening from 10 pm until after midnight. The menu is very varied. The salads are generous, and my colleague found her meat delicious and reasonably priced. One small request: if the staff could be provided with short-sleeved shirts, as they must be suffering in this heat; we felt for them... otherwise, everything else was perfect.

The waiter was friendly and the location was ideal. They offer a wide selection, including a lunch menu. However, they only offer cow's milk, no plant-based alternatives.

I've eaten at this almost-essential spot two or three times. It's pleasant because in the summer it's right on Place de la Comédie, giving it a real holiday feel. This restaurant aims for a slightly stylish vibe, which isn't entirely inaccurate. The daily menu offers a reasonable price for a decent meal. It's not haute cuisine, but everything is perfectly acceptable. However, the toilets upstairs—black, cramped, and barely clean—are a real drawback. I wouldn't hesitate to go back because of its location, but it wasn't a favorite.

I sat on this terrace on a hot day, 33°C. I ordered a beer and the service was quick. The beer was well poured. I sat on the terrace and they didn't charge extra for it. The terrace is pleasant and has discounted prices in the afternoon.

I tried it with my son and I was absolutely delighted. A warm welcome and excellent food. I highly recommend it. 👍 Today, June 14th, I received the usual fantastic welcome. The waiter, Tanguy, was very friendly, and the meal, oh my goodness, far exceeded my expectations. A huge thank you! You absolutely won't be disappointed, quite the opposite.

My son introduced me to this brasserie. I enjoyed their mussels and fries, which were a real treat, as well as their giant profiteroles. Their servers were fantastic, cheerful and friendly—a welcome change. I was delighted to surprise my son by coming all the way from Paris yesterday, and it was well worth the trip. In short, I highly recommend "Le Café Riche"—a superb brasserie.
