Very good organized museum. I had time for the modern paintings parts and was impressed by the works of painters from this area which I did not know before like Frederic Bazille or Pierre Soulages. I needed about 1.5 hours for the modern paintings part.

Admission🎫: Free admission on the first Sunday of every month Experience🎨: After entering, turn left at the ticket counter ⬅️ to begin your journey into the art gallery. Start from the first floor and ascend slowly. From religious perspectives to historical figures, the painting techniques evolve. From still lifes to portraits to historical events, the clothing of the figures also changes. From afar, you can see the overall composition and color scheme of the paintings. But upon closer inspection, you can discover subtle expressions and the lines of muscle extension. Each painting can easily take up your time. Before you know it, an afternoon has passed, yet you still feel like you haven't had enough. A visit is highly recommended. Museum History🏛️: In 1825, the Montpellier painter François-Xavier Fabre donated his art collection (a large number of paintings and drawings, etc.) to his hometown of Montpellier, prompting the local city council to establish a museum dedicated to collecting and displaying these works. This is the origin of the Fabre Museum's establishment and name. Another prominent collector and donor was Alfred Bruyas (1821-1877), who donated approximately 200 paintings and drawings. The museum officially opened to the public in 1828 and underwent a major renovation in the early 21st century (2003-2007), enhancing its exhibition space and modernizing its facilities. It is currently one of the most important museums in France and Europe. P.S. A small supplement: François-Xavier Fabre, a native of Montpellier, spent most of his life in Italy (Florence). Through painting and connections, he gradually amassed a large collection of classic Italian paintings.

A cultural gem! I've been going there since I was a child, and it's always a pleasure to return, both to enjoy the temporary and permanent exhibitions! I highly recommend this museum.

I wasn't expecting to discover a museum so rich in magnificent paintings. I didn't think I'd spend two and a half hours there; I finished the top floor with my mind foggy from hunger. It's possible to leave and re-enter the museum with the same ticket, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find my way back to the room I'd left, given that it's a real labyrinth, full of surprises and discoveries. A very beautiful museum in a very pleasant part of the city.

The museum is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside! If you love art, this is the place to be!

l'Assiette aux Fromages

14/05/2026: We go there regularly with colleagues and it's always a great time. The food is home-style, varied, with slow-cooked dishes and classic favorites that are always impeccable. The atmosphere is calm and the owner is always pleasant.
28/03/2026: Spectacular! The fondue was incredible, as were the salads, and the maître d' was especially attentive, even though we don't speak French. Highly recommended.

La Reserve Rimbaud

09/05/2026: Unforgettable lunch by a small river, very relaxed atmosphere, interesting dishes and wines
07/05/2026: Dinner for two at La Réserve, a well-known Montpellier establishment, practically an institution, with its unique setting on the banks of the Lez River. A magnificent setting indeed, the restaurant, recently awarded a Michelin star, unveils surprise menus of four or six courses, with or without wine pairings. The wine list, in particular, is well-chosen, with a range of prices, all very well chosen, and the recommendations are excellent. The four-course menu began with an amuse-bouche and an addictive country bread, followed by a magnificent asparagus dish, then moved on to fish prepared two ways, followed by a meat course with a sauce so good you'll want to stay up all night. For dessert, stewed strawberries. A true success. A perfect evening. Also worth noting is its unique terrace, the only one of its kind in the region.
