La Barge sur Troyes

This is our third visit (over three years). We were delighted the first time, but less so the last two. The setting is pleasant, but there are some issues with the service (long wait, fries that you have to ask for and that are only brought to you after you've finished your meal), and not all the dishes are great (the pepper starter was disappointing, bland, where were the promised pine nuts?, and the dessert was average). However, we were happy to try the sea bass prepared in two different ways, and they were well-prepared, original, and tasty. The prices are also reasonable, so there are some good points, and given the challenges of the restaurant business, I think the team just needs to reorganize and take customer feedback into account. With that, long live this lovely restaurant on a barge!

A delightful discovery during our stay. We visited three times, including once for the eclipse, when we sat at the outdoor bar tables directly opposite the eclipse. We enjoyed a delicious charcuterie and cheese board and cocktails. We also visited twice for refreshments on the beautiful open terrace across the street. The service was impeccable each time, and we highly recommend this place. We will gladly return.

It's worth a detour when you're on the motorway. A beautiful setting, welcoming and friendly staff, and excellent quality food. Thank you and see you very soon!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ La Barge in Troyes — Pirates of the Caribbean, Titanic, and Unionized Ducks The next stop on our Troyes gastronomic journey: La Barge. And the concept lives up to its name: it's a real barge, moored on an enclosed body of water. How did it get there? No idea. Two possibilities: either someone placed it there with a crane, or François Baroin had the body of water built around it. Personally, I prefer the second. In the evening, colorful water jets, lights, reflections, a gentle breeze… You could almost believe you were in a Mediterranean port. Except there's no port, no Mediterranean Sea, and the boat is condemned to provide the Troyes-Troyes ferry service until the end of time. With the breeze inevitably comes the Titanic syndrome: you search for the bow, arms outstretched, Céline Dion in the background… My Heart Will Go On. The only problem: it's impossible to determine with certainty where the bow, stern, front, and back are. A Titanic from the front is romantic. From the back, it's a whole different kind of cinematic experience. As for sinking, there's no risk: there's probably not enough depth to sink properly. At worst, the barge will just touch down and the waiter will continue: — Coffee? — But we just sank! — Short or long? Another local peculiarity: the ducks. Enormous and remarkably organized. As soon as a customer sits down, it's not just a duck that arrives: it's the entire union delegation. Pavlov had dogs. The Barge has ducks. You can also walk all the way around the lake in just a few minutes. Moses parted the Red Sea. In Troyes, they put a sidewalk around it. The miracle has undeniably become more practical. As for the crew, everyone is lovely. Some have a bit of a pirate look, but modern-day pirates: they bring you ravioli instead of stealing your watch. And above all: the food is excellent. Excellent ravioli, a truly superb beef tartare, without some chef having an existential crisis deciding to "revisit" it with quinoa, ketchup, and three shavings of something harvested during a full moon. Here, the beef is recognizable. After certain gastronomic experiences, we now consider that a luxury. Delicious and generous ice cream. And then there's after midnight. La Barge then operates a bit like the Gremlins. Before midnight: families, ravioli, ducks, fountains. After midnight: a change of scenery. A few vegetal scents may appear, briefly transporting you somewhere between Beirut and the Bekaa Valley. Two establishments for the price of one: a family restaurant before midnight, an ethnobotanical study after. In short: a superb and improbable setting, a lovely team, excellent cuisine, recommended steak tartare, approved ravioli, dangerously effective ice cream, and ducks under nutritional surveillance. The mystery remains: how did this damned barge get here? It doesn't matter. It's here, it probably can't leave, and since the food is so good, might as well leave it. ⚓🦆🏴‍☠️

I'm disappointed. I was here two years ago, and the menu was more extensive and the food tastier. The service was decent, but the music was a bit too loud to hear each other at the table. It's very unpleasant to be bothered by cigarette smoke from other customers and the DJ while eating on the terrace. This place is more like a casual outdoor café than a restaurant.

Excellent restaurant, superb cuisine and a very original setting! However, we had the misfortune of being served by a waiter who was unfriendly and showed little interest in the customers.
