La Cantine sur Carcassonne

Lovely menu du jour with good drinks choices. Highlights were the pork, tuna steak and creme brulee

I came to try this restaurant for lunch on the terrace, ideally located on Place Carnot. I ordered the set menu: a very good meal overall. However, there was a slight issue with dessert: of the several options advertised, only one was available. Not wanting dessert, I asked for an espresso, but no alternative was offered. The price remained the same, which is a bit of a shame. Overall, a good experience in terms of food, but the service needs improvement.

The restaurant is typical of the town, nothing special. We stopped for lunch after church on a Sunday. The waitress was very friendly, however, there's no adult menu on Sundays (and this isn't mentioned). When I ordered a main course on its own, which was considerably more expensive, I was told there was no Rochefort sauce either. Oh well. If you're in a hurry, this isn't the place for you; the service is incredibly slow, even though there weren't many of us, and it was a Sunday at the end of the month. My duck breast arrived already lukewarm. I couldn't finish it; cold duck breast just isn't good. On the other hand, the homemade fries are absolutely delicious! The prices aren't excessive; there were four of us at the table—my husband, my two eldest children, and I was expecting it to cost much more. It's okay if you want something other than McDonald's without breaking the bank, but that's about it.
