La Cigale sur Nantes

I like La Cigale because it is a magnificent place, I find the stimulating atmosphere of the brasserie there, the servers are friendly and attentive, the cuisine without being very sophisticated, haute cuisine style, is a mix between tradition and creativity around local seasonal products: the food is very good, very fresh and the wine list is to match. It is also the emblematic place to take non-Nantes residents to impress them. It's an unforgettable moment for them, especially if you offer them the very well-written book on La Cigale to deepen their experience.

La Cigale in Nantes is an emblematic and atypical restaurant, very popular on the Nantes scene. To obtain a table at the desired times, it is imperative to reserve at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance. The setting is one of the great assets of the place. With its mosaics, paintings, stained glass windows and tapestries, the atmosphere is rich in charm and history. This careful decoration contributes greatly to the customer experience. However, the service was too fast for our liking. We had the feeling of being in a hurry to order and finish quickly in order to make way for the next customers. This impression is reinforced by the customers who crowd at the entrance while waiting for their table, which gives the impression of restricted space and heavy crowds. Regarding the menu, the choice is varied, but not all dishes are equal. Some are homemade, which is nice, but the quality is inconsistent. I had the chance to taste monkfish accompanied by butternut, a tasty and successful dish. On the other hand, my partner opted for cheese pasta with butternut, but the result was disappointing: the texture was too thick and the butternut flavor was too discreet. The starter was also lackluster, with a soft-boiled egg that wasn't really so, because the yolk was overcooked and lacked flow. For dessert, a chocolate tartlet offered for 12 euros left us wanting more: the portion was not very substantial and the taste was reminiscent of an industrial product. In short, La Cigale is a symbolic place with undeniable charm, but the overall experience seemed overrated to us. Although the setting is unique, the dishes and service do not always justify the prices charged. A visit for the decor, yes, but for the gastronomy, you may not be satisfied.

Just perfect. Timeless decoration that transports the customer to another era. Very attentive and pleasant staff.

We came because we were aware of the prestige of the establishment but we were not satisfied up to our expectations. The setting is magnificent, there is no denying it: the main room is well lit and decorated, which sets up an idyllic setting for such a beautiful establishment. However, we were surprised to be placed in what looked more like a broom closet compared to the main room. It nevertheless remains quite charming but the comparison is obvious and we quickly find ourselves disappointed not to be elsewhere. The service is fast and very responsive (available for orders, placing wedges, re-plating, etc.) but is not up to par in terms of politeness and courtesy in the dining room: Server who responds to me "top "to the compliments that I can make on the plate, without adding anything and take the plates back without asking for the rest... The quality of the dishes is there, the fish is very well cooked and the composition of the dishes is consistent. HOWEVER, the plate lacks madness: little accompaniment but above all lack of quantity!! After finishing our starter/main course, we were still very hungry and it was not the two tablespoons of black rice in the main course or the 4 slices of bread that were able to fill our stomachs. It should be noted that the menu costs €25.90, which is therefore not justifiable in my opinion. In summary, a restaurant that aims to be very chic with delicious dishes in a magnificent setting, but on condition that you come with a stomach already half full...

Vi este restaurante antes de viajar a Nantes y decidimos ir porque indicaban que es muy bonito. Y efectivamente asi es. Comimos un menu de dos platos por 25 euros. Eso si los precios del vino eran prohibitivos. El agua en Nantes te la ponen gratis en todos los sitios. Tambien fuimos otro dia a desayunar. Yo chocolate con cruasanes y mi marido cafe con leche y un bowl con yogourt y frutos rojos. Todo muy rico. Personal muy amable. Lo recomiendo.

Wonderful art neauveau interior and also great food. The beaf fillet was of outstanding quality. We would come back for sure.
