Le Cancalais sur Cancale

How can one express in a few words the wonderful experience of lunch at Le Cancalais? First, the setting: understated yet elegant, open and welcoming with its beautiful dining room and large terrace. The welcome: warm and attentive. The service: efficient and highly professional. We opted for two set menus at €33 each. A special touch: a small glass of pumpkin gazpacho offered as an amuse-bouche. The presentation of the dishes was meticulous, as were the food themselves. Admittedly, the €6 supplement for the sea bass with its small vegetables in a pot-au-feu was a bit steep, but a true delight. Even the tableware added a touch of elegance. This was a lunch that thoroughly delighted us. An excellent establishment, full of refinement and flavor.

A mixed experience. The restaurant is well located. We ate mussels at a reasonable price, however, the portion of fries was expensive and, what's more, they weren't good. I'm sorry to say. The price of the fries is very high compared to the quality. They are cut thin and therefore overcooked. I don't think the quality/price ratio is acceptable.

We booked the day before and left from Le Mans. The welcome was very pleasant, and we were able to chat briefly with the owners. The service was extremely friendly, and they offered us an aperitif. And what can I say about the seafood platters? Simply excellent. Fresh products, a real treat.

We've been coming regularly every summer for the past 15 years and we're very disappointed this year. The salad served with the burger was wilted, and to top it all off, we had to tell them before dinner that we were paying with holiday vouchers. The waitress's friendliness was questionable...

A pleasant surprise, refined and delicious dishes. Quick and friendly service. The only downside was the smoking of customers on the terrace during their meal.
