Le Fournil de Marcel Kientz sur Selestat

Picking up sandwiches and water drinks from the local bakery for our canoe trip—really necessary at temperatures above 30 degrees!

I lived in Sélestat almost 10 years ago, and this was already the place to go, which is why when I was passing through last Sunday, I preferred to stop there rather than anywhere else. I think the quality and price haven't changed much, and the service is top-notch. The lady at the till took the time to prepare my halal chicken sandwich, which was really nice. I also got a chocolate braid from the day before, which was well-wrapped in cellophane, and frankly, it was still very good for €2, if I'm not mistaken. The only thing was that the pretzels were a little dry, but I think that's due to the weather. The shop remains beautiful, clean, and well-stocked. The restrooms are clean and accessible for people with reduced mobility. Parking is fairly easy, although spaces turn up quickly.

I only had a coffee. They have really good opening hours for early birds. The waitress is very friendly and personable. They only speak French here. But the food looks very good too, at least the bakery items.

I ordered 30 pastries (15 chocolate croissants and 15 plain croissants), and everything was delicious and well-prepared. I'm quite satisfied with the order. The baker even gave me 6 extra pastries, a very nice touch, and the pastries were excellent. I give it 4/5 stars, and I'll gladly come back 🙂

Excellent, very generous meal; we thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was the best value for money in the region. The Alsatian salad, vol-au-vent, and tarts were all excellent. Remember to book. Well done and thank you!

A generous €13.90 set menu (starter/main/dessert). Pleasant service with three smiling people bringing our plates. ⚠️ Reservations required ⚠️ We weren't aware of this. Nevertheless, we were able to have lunch outside and enjoy the sunshine on the terrace. A great find. We could see firsthand that this place is very popular.

We come to Sélestat regularly, and the owner of the guesthouse we usually stay at recommended this place for breakfast. The youngest employee greeted us pleasantly with a smile but then let her colleague take our order. Her attitude was very unpleasant: a forced greeting, no smile, and a way of speaking to us that almost made us turn around and leave. We then observed her behavior towards the other customers (locals, no doubt), and it was a different story. As we were leaving, we bought a Kougelhopf, and her attitude towards us had definitely changed. In short, one wonders if she needs time to wake up or if she has trouble with tourists who bring a little business to the place (if you know what I mean). But otherwise, the pastries were good. I used Marcel Kientz's bakery for a cocktail party for my son's 18th birthday. The products were excellent, the prices very reasonable, and the guests were delighted with the filled breads, verrines, savory and sweet kugelhopf, and gratinéed pretzels. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend them. Thank you.
