Le Jardin d'Hiver sur Chantilly

I wanted to echo other reviewers, for being Michelin listed, I was expecting to be absolutely blown away by the food, but it was just alright. We stopped in early September and tried the carpaccio, meat pie and tomato burrata. All of the food has some solid flavors that worked well together, but nothing on the main course menu jumped out. If you are in the town of Chantilly and it’s the only restaurant open, I’d stop by. Outside of that, stop elsewhere.

Ideally located, directly opposite the Great Stables and near the Chantilly Estate, Le Jardin d’Hiver at the Auberge du Jeu de Paume boasts a prime location. We came for lunch, after a quick stop at the hotel bar. The setting is elegant, charming, and relaxing: you truly feel transported to another world. As for the restaurant, the service is impeccable, and the menu immediately makes you want to try everything. We had a wonderful time from start to finish. Special mention for the ice cream bar with Chantilly cream… of course! 😉

The Winter Garden (Auberge du Jeu de Paume) — Culinary quality well below the prices and standard During our stay at the Auberge du Jeu de Paume, we had lunch and two dinners at the Winter Garden, the hotel's restaurant. While the setting (an L-shaped room surrounding a well-equipped patio) is very pleasant, the culinary experience proved disappointing and unrelated to the prices charged for such an establishment. A mixed bag of lunches While the pâté en croûte served as a starter was excellent—a true delight—the tomato compote with its mozzarella espuma sorely lacked the promised smoky flavor. As for the sea bass, while it paired well with the fennel, the dish was sorely lacking in seasoning and depth. The only impeccable touch at the end of the meal was a delicious Chantilly cream. Overpriced "signature dishes" For our first dinner, we opted for the chef's two signature dishes. The verdict was clear: Grilled octopus, almond milk with caviar, and rice emulsion: While the octopus was cooked perfectly, the caviar was purely decorative. Charging such a high price for such an insignificant ingredient is nothing short of a sham. Avocado and lobster salad with arugula and coral vinaigrette: A bland dish, lacking seasoning and personality. In short, two unremarkable signature dishes, sold at exorbitant prices for what they offer. For dessert, the crispy meringue dome with violet and lemon cream provided an original touch thanks to the violet, although the lemon was sorely lacking in zest and acidity. A second disappointing dinner For our second evening, we opted for the rib-eye steak to share (served with rösti potatoes, piquillo peppers, and chimichurri). Ordered rare, the meat arrived very blue. The quality was acceptable, nothing more, which is woefully inadequate considering the bill. Even worse for a restaurant of this caliber: the rösti potatoes arrived raw. Sent back to the kitchen, they were returned to us hot, but still uncooked... An unforgivable technical error. The only positive point: the manager acknowledged the problem and offered a discount. Impeccable service, but a struggling bar The waitstaff is attentive, professional, and offers excellent wine recommendations. At the bar, the cocktails on the menu are well-made, but the service lacks finesse: refusing a Singapore Sling because it's missing an ingredient, without even bothering to offer a similarly crafted alternative, falls short of the expected standards. In conclusion, while the service at the restaurant is a saving grace, the cuisine at Jardin d’Hiver is nowhere near the standard of Auberge du Jeu de Paume. It's not so much the hotel prices that are the problem, but rather the restaurant bill, which is completely out of line with the quality and quantity of the food. As my wife whispered to me as we left the table: it feels very much like a tourist trap, which is particularly regrettable for a Relais & Châteaux property.

The hotel feels a bit hyped. We came for their restaurant hoping for good AC in 37c weather. But their AC was so weak it was almost nonexistent. The beef carpaccio and fish main were both solala, the portion was small by French local standard. The dessert however was outstanding. The chair was really old and uncomfortable and there were a lot of screaming kids around the corner from the kids club.

We had a disappointing dinner here. The food was passable but not good for the price. The service was very slow and inattentive.

For our wedding anniversary, we appreciated the warm welcome, the dining room, the staff, and the €75 set menu, where both courses and desserts were excellent. My wife and I will definitely return for another occasion.

We were very disappointed with the restaurant at this establishment. We expected something else for this level of quality. We know all the good restaurants in the area (Michelin-starred or not), and frankly, the value for money is simply not there. You can find a much more refined, adventurous, AND delicious menu nearby for under €40 per person. Even the presentation of the dishes was bland. The worst part for us was the children's menu, with overcooked pasta and fries that weren't even homemade. We reported this, and apparently, they're going to pass the information along. The staff were pleasant, however, but we won't be returning.

A superb discovery! This restaurant was a true culinary experience, like a journey through different flavors. The setting is magnificent, ideally located near the Château de Chantilly, and even more delightful with the arrival of warmer weather. The service and the staff's recommendations were much appreciated. The team was attentive and present throughout the meal, making the experience even more enjoyable. As for the cuisine, a huge congratulations to the chef for refined and perfectly executed dishes. Having never tried a Michelin-starred restaurant, I imagine this one comes very close. Everything was exquisite, from the quality of the ingredients to the finesse of the dishes. I highly recommend it!

A major disappointment for a dinner costing over €100 per person. While the decor, inspired by the castle's interior, is remarkable and the drinks excellent, the food is mediocre. For example: the grey shrimp (from frozen), the foie gras ravioli were completely tasteless... or the salty caviar was so overpowering it was almost painful to eat. In short, more pretentious than delicious.
