Le Jardin Secret sur La Wantzenau

We just returned from our evening at Le Jardin Secret, where we had a truly lovely, timeless experience. The setting is cozy and elegant, inviting you to relax and unwind. The service was excellent! Well-paced, warm, and professional. The cuisine is truly exceptional; the chef comes to your table to explain his dishes with passion! The dishes are very well-conceived, and the chef elevates simple ingredients like artichokes to new heights, as well as more refined ones like brill. We had a delightful time thanks to the entire team; the menu and the service were simply perfect. Thank you to the whole team for this lovely experience.

We dined at Gilles Leininger's Jardin Secret in La Wantzenau and, overall, we had a wonderful evening. We chose the four-course "Libre Cours" menu at €105 per person. The culinary experience was truly remarkable: beautiful ingredients, original combinations, and a great deal of skill on the plate. The blue lobster from Brittany, the pollack, the Simmental beef fillet, and the various desserts offered formed a very well-structured journey. My companion particularly enjoyed the lobster. Personally, I simply don't like seafood, so this is obviously not a criticism of the chef's cuisine. Overall, everything was excellent, with modern, refined, and sophisticated cuisine. We especially appreciated the attention to detail in the sauces, textures, and seasonings. The €105 menu therefore seemed perfectly in line with the high level of gastronomy offered. However, we were a little disappointed by how our aperitif was offered. Upon arrival, we weren't given a price list, and unless we were mistaken, no prices were mentioned at all. The waiter simply came to ask if we wanted an aperitif. We accepted, and two Kir Royales with Champagne were then served. We discovered on the bill that they were €23 each, totaling €46 for the two. The price itself might be understandable in a fine-dining restaurant, but we would have really appreciated it if the price had been clearly stated before ordering, especially since the portion served was relatively small. It's a shame, because ultimately this detail detracts from an otherwise very successful experience. In an establishment of this caliber, we expect a high degree of transparency and precision in the service. In summary: the food was excellent, the menu interesting, and the overall dining experience superb, but the pricing of the aperitifs could be much clearer. We will likely return for the food, but from now on we will always ask about prices before ordering an aperitif.

The best restaurant in La Wantzenau. No other restaurant in La Wantzenau offers such an imaginative and varied cuisine. The food is exquisite and unforgettable!

The food was original and tasty, but the waiter was clearly out of his depth in a Michelin-starred restaurant, or perhaps his training wasn't complete. Having attended hotel school, he offered us a wine tasting while we were having our aperitifs—a shame. He also didn't offer us mosquito repellent, even though the owner confirmed he had some, adding, "That's just nature." And he brought us coffees we hadn't ordered! A real shame. Also, swarms of large bluebottle flies arrived as soon as the meat was served. 😮‍💨 Otherwise, the owner was very friendly, and without these issues, the terrace is very pleasant.

The five-course menu was excellent. I was a little apprehensive at first, but it was more than enough, even though I have a big appetite. The service was excellent; the waiters were very relaxed and friendly. The food was an explosion of flavors in every dish—in short, I found it excellent. Thank you for celebrating our first wedding anniversary.

For a first visit, this is a beautiful, calm, and understated establishment; you feel right at home. The cuisine is sophisticated and refined, just the way I like it. The restaurant manager is very professional, knowledgeable, and explains the menu items and wines very well. He is also very friendly and always smiling. Thank you to the entire kitchen and service team, and of course to the Chef.
