Le Lion d'Or sur Chateau-Chinon (Ville)

A passionate traveler, it was by chance that I stumbled upon the Lion d'Or. And of course, this place left its mark. Normally, I don't bother reviewing the places I stay because everything is so sterile, so similar, and original, unconventional places have little or no reason to exist... But seeing the reviews and ratings piqued my curiosity and led me to dig deeper and understand. The owner is one of those people who are bursting with energy, talkative, intelligent, with a strong and memorable personality. Ultimately, I'd say divisive. But what an evening spent dining with other travelers and the owner! A feast, hastily prepared by our ever-attentive host, peppered with shared experiences and humor. These kinds of moments are part of travel, and they leave such a lasting impression. So yes, it's far from the norm. But if everything becomes standardized, what place is left for such unique individuals? See you soon, my friend. PS: Practice your chess! ;)

An unpretentious stopover hotel, nestled within the ramparts of an old castle. Delicious and comforting cuisine. Jean Michel will welcome you with spontaneity and kindness!

After a beautiful, long drive through the Morvan, we arrived at Jean Michel's in the evening. He's a kind, cheerful man who knows a lot about the area. After welcoming us, he showed us our room, and we enjoyed a delicious meal at the restaurant around the corner. That evening, we returned to the hotel refreshed and asked if we could have another drink. He first told us it was already too late and that the restaurant was actually closed. After a brief chat, he told us to sit down and served us the best wine, along with a delicious charcuterie plate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and at the end, we were given a tour of all the rooms and spaces. Hospitality at its finest!

How can I put it? An exceptional place, even though it's currently under renovation. As for the owner's welcome, we loved it! Very kind, interesting, and attentive. And the breakfast was simply delicious. We will definitely be back. Charente-Maritime
