Les Colonnes sur Rodez

We regularly dine there on Saturdays. It's a very good restaurant with fresh, well-prepared ingredients and a great atmosphere. The daily specials are excellent and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend it if you're in Rodez.

I had the opportunity to experience the kindness, helpfulness, and hospitality of the Aveyron region at this lovely brasserie in the city center, during one of my first days in our new life in Rodez. I worked in their cozy, warm, and bright dining room, which was connected to Wi-Fi—something I desperately needed to work properly. All this with a magnificent view of the cathedral. I extended my work session and had lunch there with my partner during his break; everything was perfect! We are new to Rodez, and we are always touched by the kindness of those we meet. We visited twice and gave it 3 stars because, while I would have given it 5 stars without hesitation on the first visit, on the second we had to leave before finishing our meal due to chaotic and disastrous service. First day, Thursday, April 2nd: We had barely arrived in Rodez when we settled into our accommodation and were recommended this restaurant for dinner because it was nearby. Online booking was easy. Upon arrival, the welcome was perfect. We ordered a kir as an aperitif, a platter of regional charcuterie to share, and our main courses (a daily special for me, a meat dish from the menu for my wife). Our son ordered crispy chicken with fries. Everything flowed seamlessly: the child's dish arrived with our starter, the wine was served and opened properly once we had finished the kir. The main courses arrived hot and well-prepared shortly after the starter. Flawless service, as one would expect from an establishment of this caliber in France. The value for money seemed very good to us, so much so that we decided to return for our last evening. Second day, Sunday, April 5th: We returned feeling confident after our superb first experience, especially since options are limited in Rodez on a Sunday evening. We had booked on Saturday. Arriving at 8:30 pm sharp, we were seated immediately. We ordered more kir, charcuterie, sausage and chips for the child, main courses, and wine. That's when things started to go wrong: around 8:45 pm, everything was brought to us at once (kirs, children's meal, charcuterie, and even the bottle of wine, which was left on the side of the table while we were barely starting our aperitif). We finished our starters, and time dragged on. We waited for more than 30 minutes while tables that arrived after us were served (starters, main courses, and even desserts). We flagged down a waitress who justified the wait by saying it was "busy." After an interminable wait, while we were finishing our bottle of wine out of sheer boredom and about to leave, the main courses finally arrived. It was almost 10 p.m., at least 45 minutes after we'd finished our appetizers. We refused the main courses: we were no longer hungry and had to leave early the next day. A manager returned with the same plates; we explained that serving the main course at 10 p.m. for a reservation at 8:30 p.m. was unacceptable, especially when the neighboring tables were already at the café. If it's too busy, you have to be able to turn away customers to ensure proper service for those who had reservations. After a brief discussion, we paid for our drinks and left. In conclusion: What we ate was good (my son loved his sausage), but the service ruined everything with its lack of organization. We will return to Rodez because the city and the region are magnificent, but we are still hesitant to give Les Colonnes a third chance. If we base it on Thursday, it's a definite "yes"; if we base it on Sunday, it's a restaurant to blacklist.

Lovely brasserie with a large terrace! Good menu with local specialties and a daily specials menu! Excellent fish with delicious risotto!

The service was quite fast and the main course/dessert was very good. However, I found the bill a bit steep, hence the 4 stars.
