L'escale oceane sur Villefranche-Sur-Mer

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this gem. Wow, the food and the wines - it was a perfect evening!

As usual, we have only been here once, this is our impression from that visit. We were recommended this place by several people, but were unfortunately a little disappointed. It is a really cool place with a very unique atmosphere. Everything from the interior to the music has a clear design language and it looks very inviting. We had not booked and found out that the table was booked in just under 50 minutes, but we were able to sit until then. The wine selection was limited to white, rosé or red and since we ordered a selection plate with different goat cheeses and a French onion pie, we are recommended to have a white. The wine was fresh and quite ok, but for the price you pay for a glass I probably had slightly higher expectations. The goat cheese platter was good and since I have never tried a French onion pie it is difficult to decide whether it was good or not, but it was very good. The whole thing felt a little stressful and we almost had to throw the last thing in before our time was up. We walked past a while later and the table we had been sitting at was still empty, which makes it feel like a strategy from the restaurant to try to get more guests. If we had had the opportunity to stay and try some other wine and some other finger food, the feeling might have been different, but now we were left with a slightly bitter aftertaste after the visit and we didn't feel so welcome. The food was ok, the wine was ok, but neither the wine nor the food was in proportion to the price we paid. Would we come back? Since several people recommended the place, maybe we would give it another chance, or we would skip it and go to one of the other places that were recommended to us. So quite uncertain.

Excelent place to drink a glass of wine with great company. They took care of us very well. 11/10
