L'Imparfait sur Bergerac

First day and a lunchtime treat in Bergerac. We didn't know what to expect but our apartment owner recommended here and after a 4am start to our journey from the UK, we needed the Menu du Midi. The amuse bouche gazpacho and the delicious warm popcorn bread with butter salted with seaweed were great. Starter of goats cheese salad and oeuf parfait very tasty and the main dishes of roasted salmon and pork were beautifully presented and filling. The orange cake with sorbet and grand marnier with an expresso, the perfect finale. But for us the highlight was the staff, both waitresses a real delight, so welcoming and patient with my attempts to converse in French but also discreet and professional. It was a great way to start our holiday as we found the people in Bergerac to be so friendly and open. Well done, Chapeau!

A superb seven-course experience… Everything was perfect… the servers were great… open kitchen… fantastic… Very kind people who love their work… I highly recommend it… thank you to Hervé, Gaby, Catherine and their other colleagues.

Excellent cuisine. A feast on a plate. Highly recommended!!! Now, 2 years later, back in Bergerac. Lunch at L'Imparfait. It is still a treat. Friendly and efficient service.

Very good food, excellent wines, attentive professional service. Good value for money

We had visited in February 2024 and had a completely different experience. The service was simpler: although the waiters were very friendly and welcoming, they were far too intrusive. We didn't appreciate having crumbs picked up from our table in the middle of a conversation. Also, the langoustine ravioli was very good, but I would have hoped for at least two. My partner ordered the fresh foie gras, which was very good, but it wasn't the same at all in the pan-seared version. The option of serving bread "on the plate" would have been nice if we could have had several at once, rather than having to interrupt the meal to offer bread. In short, we felt that the restaurant was trying to achieve a level of sophistication it simply couldn't.

I had an amazing time dining here. The staff are lovely and unassuming, what you want from a top quality restaurant. I’ve a couple of complaints about the food; 1) the champagne sorbet was overly sweet, lacking any sense of gusto and flavour. I’ve had pink champagne sorbet previously and it has a much more luxurious feeling. 2) the duck was a little overcooked, but the main thing was the mustard essence from one of the sauces it was just TOO much and vulgar at points. 3) The pavlova dessert had clearly been in the freezer too long and the meringue, refused to crumble. The strawberry sorbet was scrumptious though… overall a lot of hits and misses. Should come to around €70. This was €100. Maybe a slight embellishment is allowed due to the fact, there is only a couple of great restaurants here. But still.

When anyone mentions French cuisine in the future, I will always think back to this meal. We ate on the terrace, and the staff were fantastic at tolerating my awful French and were exceptionally attentive and professional. Rare steak was sublime, wonderful entrees and ‘surprise’ courses, my wife had magret de Canard. Fine wines recommended by the waiter who spoke excellent English. All in all, a standard that I think will never be bested. And all for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend L’imparfait.

An excellent restaurant in Bergerac! We opted for the seven-course tasting menu, which truly allows you to sample a variety of dishes, as the chef selects what he serves each course. And frankly, we thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. We received a very warm welcome from the head waiter, who was incredibly friendly, as were the two young waiters, who were also very pleasant. The restaurant is located on a charming, quiet street with little traffic, which made the evening even more enjoyable. The establishment is recommended by the Michelin Guide, and personally, I think it easily deserves a star! We had a wonderful evening and would definitely return. A truly great find in Bergerac!

While passing through Bergerac, we discovered the restaurant L'Imparfait. We had a wonderful time; the food was delicious. The staff was attentive throughout the meal. A special mention goes to Maya, who was absolutely lovely to us (thank you for the photos 😉). We will definitely return sometime. Thank you so much.
