Restaurant 1789 sur Val-D'Isere

Restaurant 1789 is unique. Dress in T-shirts as this place warms up - but the meat being cooked on the open fire in the restaurant and the attention to detail by the chefs to cook it perfectly for their clients is worth the heat! Val D’Isere has become known for poor service and rude staff - particularly at some of expensive restaurants on the slopes, so 1789 stands out from the crowd. You need to book - but do go and experience this fabulous and actually reasonably good value gem!

A truly wonderful discovery. A rich and delicious menu. A major plus is the meat cooked over a fireplace, which creates a cozy atmosphere. The Tournedos Rossini is divine, with its morel cream sauce and irresistible truffle.

Great steak cooked on an open grill. Service was excellent, another super meal. We come every time we are in Val.

Wonderful yet simple little restaurant with friendly service. They do 2 seatings and we were in the 1st seatings. As they only have a few staffs, you do have to wait for service but they will eventually and definitely come to you. The menu has a reasonable number of choices but this is the place for their grilled meat. We had a cote de bouef which was cooked over an open fire and was wonderful as expected. They are friendly with children and a couple of them (including ours) were celebrating their birthday. Whole restaurant sang the birthday song and it was a wonderful experience for them. I would recommend it if you are after a simple non fuss meal with good value. If you are after something extravagant, there are other choices in town. Reservation is a must.

Amazing place, excellent service and food. I recommend the baked egg and the delicious wood-fired ribeye steak.
