Restaurant Chez Hortense sur Lege-Cap-Ferret

What a wonderful place! We thoroughly enjoyed the mussels and fish at Chez Hortense. The view of the dune, the excellent service, all in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this establishment!

Honestly, a local classic! The mussels are a must-try and should be experienced at least once in a lifetime. The setting is magnificent.

Excellent location and very pleasant service

We had lunch at Hortense's yesterday. Fredo was incredibly welcoming. He gave us advice and kept us company throughout the meal. His humor and attentiveness were much appreciated, especially since the restaurant was full, and he never let us feel his stress.

We've been coming here every summer for 11 years, it's simply amazing. I can't understand the negative reviews at all – it's always been packed, and you have to expect a wait even with a reservation, so what? It's just so beautiful here, I love the incomparable atmosphere, the location, the view, the staff, and of course the food: incredibly good moules frites, sole, turbot, strawberries with whipped cream, pistachio and chestnut sundaes… Hortense is simply an institution! 💚

A must-try during our stay in Cap Ferret! Impeccable service, the staff were lovely. We hadn't booked and were lucky enough to get a table. The mussels are to die for. Everything was perfect.

Just a week after the tragic events in Gironde, we had lunch as a family at this Cap Ferret institution: Chez Hortense. We absolutely had to try the traditional and iconic dish of this Arcachon Bay establishment: moules-frites (mussels and fries). What a treat to enjoy these mussels in such an exceptional setting, with a magnificent view of the Dune du Pilat! Everything was top-notch from start to finish: the ambiance, the service, the dishes, from appetizer to dessert, as well as a very well-chosen wine list, showcasing wines from the Bordeaux region, but also some excellent quality bottles, all at reasonable prices. Thank you again to the entire team for your hard work and warm welcome. Best of luck for 2026, which looks set to be extremely difficult given the current situation. I highly recommend this restaurant and its location. You'll find a timeless place, in a setting suspended between the bay, the sea, the forest, the Dune du Pilat, and the sky. Congratulations again to the whole team, and above all, keep up the wonderful work in this beautiful place. Despite some criticisms and opinions, we had a fantastic time and will cherish the memory of our lunch with you.

We had a lovely meal at Chez Hortense in Cap Ferret. The food was great and the restaurant was absolutely buzzing — despite being very busy, the staff ran everything like clockwork. We’d booked well in advance, so it was a little disappointing not to get one of the better tables with a view towards the sand dunes. That said, the setting is still fantastic and definitely part of the appeal. We had the mussels and chips, which were very good, although I thought it was a little pricey for what we had. There may also have been a slight misunderstanding when ordering — we intended to share one portion of mussels and chips between two, but it seemed as though two portions arrived! Overall, a great place to experience if you’re in Cap Ferret. Good food, great atmosphere and a brilliant location — just be prepared to pay a little more for the privilege.

We came last week and were able to book the day before. A great atmosphere overall at this establishment. And a big thumbs up for the grilled wild sea bass with its butter sauce.

It is of excellent quality and it is a very pleasant and beautiful space.
